My Job Today

Accidental Poet

In Scituate, Massachusetts

The town I grew up in

With the Scituate Historical Society

As a member I’ve been

Heritage Days held every year

We open the historical sites

Open to the public

To share favored town sights

And I at my favorite place

At the top of Lawson Tower

To answer questions

For all of four hours

Up a spiral staircase

123 steps to the top

The glorious observation deck

A 10-chime bell rung by clock

Also rung by hand on carillon

By experienced carillonneur

Popular songs upon 10-chime bells

Listeners with a musical souvenir

The tower built to beautify

A water tank within

Similar to an old German castle

Along the Rhine River at Bad Ems

My job today

Is to answer questions

About Thomas W. Lawson

And the tower of his investing

At his wife Jeannie’s request

He asked the town’s permission

To cover the unsightly water tank

A more pleasing rendition

Upon Lawson’s approval

The tower built in 1902

More beautiful than any

Vertical structure was meant to

I volunteer for this job

For it’s a labor of love

I love Lawson Tower

So let the bells ring above

WOW Andy, that tower is amazing. The views are incredible and I could spent the whole day there taking it all in. Thank you for the link. 👍
