My Heart’s Forever Wife

Accidental Poet

From day one

At first sight of you

Now, fifty-four years ago

To you Sharon, my heart was due

For four years you hadn’t known

I was your secret admirer

And telling you, “I Love You”

My heart’s only true desire

A life altering experience

A young boy falling in love

Suddenly I knew why

Lovers wished on stars above

And although I knew

I needed love too

I never expected

To have love returned from you

I was just so captivated

At sight of your smile

So thoroughly enchanted

Mesmerized of your style

And after confessing

My secret love for you

Before you moved away

“Good-bye” so hard to say, I knew

And now after so much time

I’d give anything to hold you

To gaze upon your smile again

A feeling I never outgrew

You owe me no apologies

As you’ve already filled my life

My memories of you Sharon

My heart’s forever wife

so sad, yet there's beauty - too, unquestionably:
(who of us, imbued with regret's scorching blood
haven't got rooms, with broken neon lights above
naming, that one who'll always have a permanent,
place: in the depths of our heart's..)
thanks for sharing, so bravely dear poet

A memory made years back still feels so near and your verse spells its hold as moments move onward - that final line had me near tears so poignant with what ifs and supposing -- a moving read A.P,

Thank you Fay. A long road its been, but a road I'll always look back on and smile. 😊
