Ars Poetica

M.E.M.

My affinity for poetry came from

My love of reading,

And introduction to poetry from seventh grade English.

The first poem written

Was about loss.

The loss of my grandpa.

foreshadowing the subject of my future poetry.

I hold this poem close to my chest.

Letting the ink seep from the page

and into my heart.

Defining me.

Through guidance and practice

I branched away from sorrow, pain, and darkness

Into cheer, joy, and light.

My reason for writing these words is this:

I know others struggle, as I struggle.

I’m here to let you know you are not alone

And there is light at the end of your tunnel.
