Unbeatable.
The breath of morning glistened
as blue ice wept wet over sunrise.
Cold fought movement and froze
fingers to rigid equipment.
Bivouac packed they began climb
keeping eyes on the summit.
But mountain thought otherwise
by its clawing crevasses.
They tackled first heights with
wary experience and reaching
a ledge saw the ice-cap ahead.
Granite-blockade bared teeth
of frozen resistance with black
scree wrapping sheeted maws
round frozen lines of defense
Avid hill climbers though awed
with vast views know overhang
of icicle cliffs laughs at pickaxes
and they back-track before real
danger of darkness descends
Majestic force of unbeatable peaks
means mountains breed auras that
warn they are invincible.

An intense, thoughtful exposition of the man v mountain confrontation. Why did you pen this steel-eyed look at the mointian? Because it's there!
Yes when it is there I have to scribe how it might feel - - -many thanks Jarcher for your visit to read Unbeatable and leaving such a thoughtful comment.
The quality of your words never falters dear Fay - simply reading it takes me to another place .
You are kinder than kind dear Michael and so pleased you were there in your mind as those climbers at least aimed for the summit.
It's cold up here but the view can be breathtaking, I imagine since I'm not a climber. Great write.
Snap for me too Rrod - I also am not happy with being too high on mountainsides but glad you enjoyed the breath of virtual air from my little verse.
I wanna be there..... order me a helicopter cos i'm too lazy to climb (shall I include a list of injuries and ailments here?). Oh I'm often perched mentally upon a peak. It brings out the "superior" in me, especially when a choir of angels descent to exhalt me..... am I getting carried away here.. (or carried off).
Look what your elevated poetry has done to me..... I need earthing!
Wonderful tale Fay with a well and wise ending.
Andy
Sometimes so difficult but still possible to overcome challenges in life, keep trying, don’t give up - a message of hope. Thank you for sharing.
There are experiences/activities I have never and now never will experience for myself. Surfing, hang gliding are others. Doesn’t prevent imaginative journeys though. Your piece provided a perfect key for one such – Thanks Fay.
