Sheep Service

Tune: Ewing

('Jerusalem the golden')

Matthew 25 v.31-40 parts

********

When Christ shall come in glory

There justice, judgement be

And then a separation

Of they in each nation

The sheep and goats divided

And to the sheep, Christ said

Come, you by my Father blessed

To kingdom's promised rest

Now this kingdom inherit

It has been prepared yet

From foundation of the world

Now to you it unfurled

But how? What did the sheep do

To obtain blessings true?

They served Christ in the least ones

Among His daughters, sons

They gave food to the hungry

And drink to the thirsty

They too did welcome strangers

Moved by compassion's stirs

And they did supply clothing

To poor, did garments bring

Did visit sick and prisoner

Comforts on them confer

For in each of these things they

Did serve Christ in their day

No one too mean or small, for

They showed love to Christ sure

In tending to each person

Now their reward, each one

To share His kingdom ever

His presence leaves them ne'er

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 7.6.7.6. 7.6.7.6. metre. I sang the hymn in the clip in an old church. Sun's rays shone through the windows, lighting up the dust in the air, though the building had been cleaned! It felt atmospheric.
