Symbols Of Music.

Goldfinch60

Looking at the music you see them written there,

What do they mean?

When ‘pp’ is seen quietness must be heard,

Then ‘p’ expects the music a little louder,

Where ‘mp’ is louder still but still quiet.

Then comes ‘mf’ where it becomes a normal sound

Raising to ‘f’ which is loud.

Up to ‘ff’ where loudness pervades all.

Without these signs music would fail,

And it’s emotion would be unheard.

There is another way of interpreting them,

Where how loud they can be played

Is all that matters.

‘pp’ becomes ‘pretty powerful’,

‘p’ is just powerful,

‘mp’ is mighty powerful.

‘mf’, mighty forceful,

Drowns out all others.

‘f’ is forceful which is only slightly softer,

‘ff’ becomes fairly forceful,

Which only drowns some of the players.

Music can be interpreted

In so many ways,

But without its sounds

My life would miss

The glory that it brings to me.

    Good write Gold.
Ahh, that's why they say 'Turn down the ffffffffff volume Orchi; give it a rest!' Oops! lol.

    • Goldfinch60

      Very true Orchi.

When i was in a group playing in clubs and functions with mixed age audiences there would always be some doddery old bugger (we were teenagers) who would come up to one of us on stage requesting "could you tone it down a bit please"..... which was of course totally ignored because the group did not have a tone control - whatever that is.

      • Goldfinch60

There are always doddery old buggers like that - oops that's us now - pardon? LOL

        A very cleverly crafted poetry
A beautiful link of music notes with powerful words
I really found those lines so much encouraging
The full forms of notes, so well expanded…

        • Goldfinch60

          Thank you spilleronsheet, much appreciated.

So much easier to remember now that you have given alternative interpretations. Thank you Andy for this poem.

            ('tonality' is Queen
in Poetry in Music: in all Artistry..)
            'in my humble opinion'

            • Goldfinch60

              Thank you Mek.
Yes tonality certainly is Queen in all art.

Wow this TOOK ME BACK! I used to be in my middle school's orchestra and I played the viola and this literally transported me to them musical days! I love classical orchestras and the notation is so beautiful to learn as it's like learning a new language. I definitely felt this message and the "pp's" and "mf's" have a special place in my heart! 💖

                  • Goldfinch60

Glad it brought back such fine memories Rocky, music always has the power to do that.

An education is mine, provided I stick around long enough.
Thanks for the tutorial - looking forward to the rest of the series, Andy.

                    • Goldfinch60

Thank you Dave, you will stick around for a very long time and use experience to teach you the way as we all do.

No, Andy. You have, I believe, referenced a response I made to another contributor here. While I’m an advocate for experiential learning, this is very much situation specific. Transmission of knowledge can be by direct dialogue but also by education in its various forms. You could be a tutor utilizing at least the form available here.
