The music takes me back
To happy times and places
I hear the notes and they transform
To old familiar faces
The words are in my memory
Enshrined forever more
I sing them in my dreams
I speak them in my lore
The music wraps around me
And takes me to my home
I’m lifted in a starry sky
Where I may ever roam
I’m lost in thoughts of yesterday
Of places I have seen
Those thoughts are sometimes foggy
But I know just what they mean
They are feelings that engulf me
And will not let me go
They hold me and caress me
As they rock me to and fro
The lullaby my father sang
A sweet and calm refrain
I see him sitting by my bed
His loving face the same
My mother singing as she sewed
A brand new dress for me
Lost in ruffles, hems and folds
She stitched so lovingly
The songs of Christmas in our church
The sounds, the smells alive
With hymns of old that filled my mind
When I was only five
The songs of adolescence
That I danced to in my youth
They seem a little dated now
If I should speak the truth
The wedding song that I adored
A special one for me
He and I were one that day
How happy we would be
Our children came, first one then two
Within a span of years
Their babbling and cooing
Was sweet music to my ears
So much music followed
Each precious life event
That made me truly grateful
For a life that seemed well spent
And as the music plays now
And I hear the final beat
I feel its warmth and comfort
That has made my life complete

Expressed so well! Music is powerful and definitely moves our hearts throughout our lives. Great poem!
Thank you so much. I Like to think that we we created music from the very beginning because it's good for our souls.
Enjoyed reading your poem. Happy lines about the music at different times of your life. I remember this in my life too.
It is such a treat to share these words with fellow travelers through life. Music is universal and crosses so many barriers. Thank you for your kind words.
I have been listening to music all my long life, it is part of my life and I know that the more I get to know about music the more ignorant I realise I am as there is so much music to be heard and played.

Thank you so much for your comment. I love the story of the 1914 Christmas Eve truce in Belgium during WWI. German and British soldiers singing Christmas Carols to each other across the lines, even leaving their trenches to meet up half way into No Man's Land and exchanging handshakes, tobacco and wine. Music knows no hatred or division, it can bring out our humanity.
Very well said. Not only did the meter flow well but the message was a powerful one. Music is so deeply rooted in all of us that it can evoke all types of emotions. It together with verse can change the world.
You are so right, music is deeply rooted in all of us. Thank you for your insightful comments, I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Really like this. I am captured in the first verse and lead through each with words and images that draw me alongside with a touch of candidness. Lovely
Thank you dear poet for your kind words, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it. Music has always been such a big part of my life.
I simply dont know what on earth we would do without it .. people dancing, tapping their feet and generally letting their hair down would all look rather bizarre without some accompanying beat or tune being played out, wouldn't they ... tis just as well I know exactly what you mean Bella ... wham-bam thank you ma'am for posting ............................ Your witty repartee, always makes my day! Love to get your comments

simply Beautiful
dear cherished Poet)
thank you!
Thank you my cherished friend for such kind words . I took a creative writing class in 2018 and we were asked to write a poem one night in class. I wrote the first few stanzas there and later on I added to it. I guess I caught the bug there, and have enjoyed it ever since. I so enjoy our communication, it means a great deal to me.
