This Lady Gowns Justice

Rocky Lagou

Honey drip

Golden slicked -

This honey is THE Lady of Justice –

She so fine

She so tried

She so drippy golden divine –

Our symbol of fairness

Our symbol of – better days –

She don’t DISCRIMINATE!

N O,

S H E

G O W N S

J U S T I C E.

Shimmer shiny scales upon her hand,

You know she got a plan, golden slicked justice.

She balances evidence like a seesaw –

Meticulously weighing each side – she don’t pick a side.

Arisen from Roman pantheon –

She’s a Goddess in her own right!

Honey got a blindfold blindfolding her blindfolded virtues!

She like that! Impartiality!

Bias don’t slide!

Disregard color, religion, gender.

She is in her own center.

Balancing, seesawing.

A N D,

O V E R A L L,

S H E G O W N S

A U T H O R I T Y!

Sword clutched on her other hand,

She slices priority, she declares her verdict with superiority!

Golden honey drippy –

She maintains the Fair Play!

Abundant in Power –

Let’s see how proof sways -

  • Comment from author about the poem: Hello! This poem was written during a transcendence (aka, while listening to music that elevates your mood.) You know when you listen to music that makes you so calm and joyful that you feel like you're "transcending," well that's what happened (I was listening to SZA if you're curious.) And this was the product. I know I wanted to express WOMANLY POWER and also a political statement, JUSTICE. So this is a message to the world, Justice will overrule! Hope you enjoy! βš–βœ¨βš”

It seems to me you captured the very essence of her perfectly .. bravo .. that's justice for ya ...................... N

    • Rocky Lagou

Oh, thanks so much Neville! That was my goal, to encapsulate her as best I could. While also making the poem sound "groovy," so I feel so rewarded to see you felt that through the piece. Thanks again and have a great day! πŸ’–

I agree with Neville that you have captured the essence of this lady.

If only the purity of her virtue were realised in the practice of law and justice in our system.

Hey Dusk! It's so delightful to see you around (you're a personal MPS "fave" of mine πŸ˜…) and to see you enjoyed the poem is such a rewarding experience. I really wanted to convey the Lady of Justice as this divine and all-embracing figure that stands for one unanimous right: justice. I also totally agree with your statement of the notions we set up centuries ago not being applied present-day. There are still many flaws in our judicial systems and I hope that the world can look up to Lady Justice as a model for what true judgement should look like. Have a great day!

nice take on Themis the goddess of divine law and order. Let us hope she weight Putin's crimes and applies appropriate punishment

Hey! Thanks for stopping by and for pointing out an aspect of the poem that is subtle but one that I wanted to convey, the mythological lore of Lady Justice. She stands for fair judgement and we must always look to her symbols to understand how to best judge. Putin should definitely pay for his actions, hopefully Lady Justice will be the one declaring his ultimate verdict! πŸ’–πŸ˜…

Really like this .. very nicely expressed ! πŸ™‚

          • Rocky Lagou

Hey! Thanks so much for the comment! It's reassuring for me to see you enjoyed the poem! Lady Justice is a symbol for not only justice, but peace! May Peace be with you on this fine day! πŸ’–

Yes , peace ! And peace is so much nicer ! I I did like reading your poem

I met her today. Not in person, but in a short online course. The very same picture. I'm looking at social justice relating to children/young people.
In UK, it seems there are variations for (1) England & Wales. (2) Scotland. (3) Northern Ireland.
Can't tell ya much yet - just begun the course!

              • Rocky Lagou

Hehe! I love your quirkiness, the way you had to clarify you didn't meet her in person πŸ˜…! But wow what a coincidence, we're all connected it seems. Also seems quite strange that a universal right, justice, varies depending on countries. Our world should share a universal rule for judgement but seems reasonable since our world has manipulated quite a lot of things; not to mention the nuances between governments and judiciaries from place to place. What a world we live in! Have a great day! πŸ’–βœ¨

It's another in-joke on here between me and a couple of other poets - being very old, about 5 million years old! We're nuts! lol.

A marvellously written piece here Rocky, I almost ended up reading it like a rap, with a "phat beat" behind it.

You've outlined a great description of what actual justice is, rather the way that man misinterprets it, to serve it's greedy needs.

Bravo, and I hope that all is well!

                  • Rocky Lagou

Heheh!! I was writing this while listening to R&B so probably explains how the musical essence slipped into the poem. It does rhyme quite a bit so honestly, might make it into a rap! πŸ˜… But either way, thanks for the appreciation! I'm glad you enjoyed it and the message rings true; justice is universal and not biased. Have a great day! πŸ’–βœ¨

The power in your words mirror the power of the image you chose. Bravo!πŸ·πŸ·πŸ•ŠπŸŒž

                    • Rocky Lagou

Thank you tremendously! I really appreciate your kind words! Have a lovely day! πŸ’–

Halls of justice painted green, money talking
Power wolves beset your door, hear them stalking
Soon you'll please their appetite they devour
Hammer of justice crushes you, overpower

the lady justice has always represented a figurehead to a failing system to me. Her blind eyes are blind to see injustice and pain and misery.

good read though, nice and quippy

Hello! Thanks so much for your beautiful and Poetic comment! I truly appreciate your feedback and I agree with you, the social justice system is in a stagnant position. But, I set Lady Justice as a model to follow. She possesses the good and fair qualities of how judgement should be followed. Either way, thanks again and have a great day! πŸ’–

                        • Rozina

Justice and Peace. Worldwide we continue to seek for these. Your message resonates loud and clear. More people need to look towards Her.

                          • Rocky Lagou

Yes Rozina! Thanks for your comment and I'm glad to see you understood the message. Lady Justice is full of symbols that assist us in modern day to properly treat social situations in the court of law. Have a lovely day! πŸ’–βœ¨πŸ’–

Very good words showing that justice can be true if acted upon without any bias.

                            Andy

                            • Rocky Lagou

Exactly Andy! We mustn't show favor to one or the other and treat everyone fairly during judgement. Thanks for your feedback and have a great day! πŸ’–
