Tune: Monks Gate
('He who would valiant be')
Psalm 97 v.1-6
*********
The Lord reigns, let earth rejoice
Praise him with one voice
Let the many isles be glad
Not be downcast, sad
Clouds and darkness they be
All round about Him, see
Swells high above, yet near
By His Spirit here
Judgement and righteousness
They sure be, no less
The foundation of His throne
He reigns, He alone
A fire before Him goes
His strong vengeance He shows
Burns up His enemies
The oppressed He frees
Lightnings lighten the world
His judgement unfurled
Earth tremble, mountains shake
His presence does make
Them fear, Lord of the whole
Earth, worship, Him extol
Heavens say, He righteous
His glory shown us
How can I here rejoice
And add too my voice
To your praise? Lord, forgive
By mercy we live
Look on your world, evil
You see, but too good all
Help us true servants be
With grace, harmony

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.5.6.5. 6.6.6.5. format. A couple of extra syllables sneaked in also. Hymn is sometimes called 'Who would true valour see'. Linking in some themes in this poem, I added the last verse. I came to an outcome that it is right to praise the Lord, even with the world's troubles, large and small. Whatever good we do, even the least thing, we do it unto Christ, though the sweeping statement is made 'The whole world is evil'. But we don't forget the good.
