A VISIT CANCELLED

Michael Edwards

We’ve always wanted to visit Kyev

A beautiful city I’m led to believe

So it’s with regret that we’re currently looking

To pick up the phone and cancel our booking

For there’s a rumour widely quoted:

The risk is high that you'll catch covid.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Black humour. This one I agonised over - there's humour in every situation but given the awful state of this poor country and the suffering of its people it may seem to some to be offensive. If that's so I'll happily remove it.

Yes, and can we still buy any (sylla) berles there?!

  • dusk arising

a missile, a bomb or a murderous shooting
which poisonous death awaits mr putin
    how many more times
    shall we witness war crimes
before the day someone executes him

    just crazy, to introduce war
to a world still reeling from COVID..
an apt use of reverse psychology
    in poetic form, to showcase
    your exasperation
at this befuddling and shameful episode
    in humanity's history..
    humour needs to prick
if it's to encourage the healing of our overwhelmed
    sensitivity's, I think
(as long as it's in good taste)..
thanks Michael, a read that adds a realistic
    balanced and relatable perspective
    to this challenging times..
    (btw
    on another note, in USA
as a way to get money, right
to the hands of the Ukraine people
    and not some, charity scam
    people began booking, Airbnb
    rooms and requesting
    no refunds, for cancellations
    or unavailable status of rooms
so the owners got the money direct..
I thought this was so inventive
    and reassured my dwindling hopes
    that goodness, may someday
    prevail)
