Not Just An Old Fella Passing
Bill Stamp was not just any
old fella ..
All bent down the middle ..
Nor was he just skin and bone
He once was a
father, a brother, a lover and
somebodies son ..
Moreover, on more than just
one odd occasion
he went over and over and
over the top ..
For his king and his country,
for peace,
love and justice and all those
still with us today ..
No, Bill Stamp was far from
being just any old fella ..
Bent down the middle, all shit,
snot and piddle ..
He was, and still is, a war hero
with scars to this day ..
Both mental and physical, plus
a chest full of
medals and ribbons to prove it ..
So when you
lower him down, be sure to lay
him down gently ..
The old fella deserves it and he
more than damned earnt
the ten gun salute at the end of the day ..

A fitting tribute N. Great write. đ
thank you dearly & kindly AP my friend ....................... Neville
Are we the last generation to respect our elders? All the adults around me as a child had war stories they could tell but rarely did. I never found out what my dad actually did In WW2 other than to know he was an RN lieutenant and had the scars to prove he'd seen action. He just wouldn't talk about it other than a few sights he had witnessed.
A couple of years ago i was sat in a sainsbury cafe when I was introduced to an old boy at the next table. He was a VC and had been on the beaches at D day. I found myself full of respect for the man and regarded him much as i would if he were royalty.
I imagine the future generations in wartorn Ukraine will be respectful of their elders.
Well Bill Stamp is certainly deserving of your very fine piece today. Bent and smelly but that's just the shell which contains the spirit of the man. ... Respect.
A really moving write Neville.

Dusk's comment, spoke to me
'Are we the last generation to respect our elders?'
not while Supreme Poet's like you, Hyung
share such emotive poems
invoking that respect and gratitude
we should never forget
for those who stood up and championed Peace
by bloodying their fingers and minds
and scarring their lives...

Poemed to perfection this caring tribute to a friend with a chest full of medals and ribbons earned by his efforts to stay over the top again and again - - certainly not just any old fella and we as readers will remember Bill Stamp along with this mention of his valued example of what peace and love of justice means. A fine and very moving write Nev,..............x
.
As always dear lady I find my self again indebted to you .............................. N x
This is a wonderful tribute, N! As you said "Lay him down gently" I got shivers down my spine. Military funerals are so hard to attend, for me at least. The last being of my grandpa and they play 'taps' here and that always gets me. Anyway, you did one hell of a job on this!
You are far to kind dear C .................. but am I complaining, ............... nah of course not he whispers in his finest BBC English ................... N
A fine write N.
Meanwhile - you know Bill Stickers, or his mate Bill Posters? Why they always prosecuting them? What they done? An old joke, probably centuries old! lol.
Thank you Steven .. I'm sure Bill would have a good old chuckle with you đ
A beautiful thought
A sincere gratitude
So well said and a beautiful tribute for all those unsung heroes who didnât think twice of loosing the head
Very thoughtful dear Neville
the simple term thank you hardly seems adequate enough a word to convey how grateful I really am for your ongoing support and encouragement spills ... but I truly am ............. Neville
Another relatively long one â thanks Nev.
For me the real message here is the contrast between Bill as âBent down the middle, all shit, snot and piddle ..â and the reminder of a detailed complex life nearly everyone leads one way or another, with our own private battles, mostly âunheralded or unsungâ.
You got it DD & precisely too .. many thanks to you sir ................ Neville
Wonderful respectful words Neville, I have met many who were in ww2 but few of them tell of what they did. I had an uncle who was a Japanese POW and he never said anything about it but I could always see the horror in his eyes.
Andy
Thank you Andy ..................... Neville
a lovely tribute, Neville. Love the conversational, direct address. I penned a similar poem about my grandad, called Stormin' Norman. Again, a moving a heart-felt work. Well done! We will remember them!
thank you kindly Kevin ........ I shall have to go check your poem out, although I think I might well recall Norm ........................ N
