Tune: Winchester New
('Ride on, ride on in majesty')
Luke 22 v.1-6; and v.17-20
*********
Feast of unleavened bread drew nigh
Passover, Jesus was to die
But shared first of the bread and wine
The Lamb of God, the Life Divine
Chief priests and scribes sought how they may
Kill Christ, they feared people that day
They looked for secret, subtle way
Judas did His Master betray
Stepped into darkness, Satan filled
His heart, mind, his passions unhealed
Judas Iscariot did go
Unto chief priests, scribes, he did show
Evil rejoiced, money promised
To Judas, he did not resist
But thirty silver coins price
Of betrayal did him suffice
Then time came, he did with a kiss
Betray Jesus, pretence of bliss
Help us, Lord, from selfishness turn
Does our love for you so slight burn?
Will we value you so little
That we turn, do deeds that appal?
Give us grace faithful for to be
Your followers whole-heartedly

Good one Orchi
Thanks S.
I watched a movie this weekend called "The Passion of the Christ" and it literally outlines what you mention here. It was all about the final sacrifice and I must admit, it was very gruesome. A horrible price payed for our wrongs. Great poem!
Thanks Rocky. Yes, and then this betrayal on top of everything. Being very English, one may say 'You cad, you bounder,....! Judas did repent later, but the 'religious leaders' didn't care about him, that he had returned the money to them. They were worse than him in a way, and earned Jesus' label of 'hypocrites'. Not applying to all religious leaders though.
Great piece Orchi
Thanks Blue.
