Tune: Love Unknown
('My song is love unknown')
Luke 23 v.26-31
*********
They led away Jesus
He gave His life for us
Simon of Cyrene
They laid upon him, see
The cross of Jesus, he did bear
It, and carried it for Him there
And a great company
Along the journey be
They wept and wailed, but He
Said, Women, not for me
Weep, but for yourselves and children
For the days that shall follow then
Days in which barren blesses
Shall be, and so confesses
Happy they that ne'er bore
Children, descendants sure
For they shall be saved misery
Of troubles and calamity
In those days they shall say
Mounts, fall on us, we pray
And hills cover us, hide
Us, we 'neath you reside
For now as green tree with turmoil
What shall be done when dry tree all*?
------
* The metaphor thought here is that it is a 'green tree' time.
Bad enough things happen now, but in the 'dry tree' time
they will be worse.
