offers of nonsense

dusk arising

rescue dogs from Dundee
brought wensleydale cheese
and two ducks
a ten shilling note

while mice on the shore
opened Majories door
and launched
a pea green boat

the flatulent fellows
from wind in the willows
offered jam
and freshly made toast

the dish and the spoon
had arrived too soon
and frankly
given up the ghost

the cat and the fiddle
and wee jimmy riddle
all danced
and acted the goat

an orang-utan
and a teddy bear sang
to a small guitar
whilst afloat

in charge of the silvery moon that night
was constable Bert Baboon
to keep things going, a worm sat glowing
casting light on the old lagoon

then an owl from Beirut
gave an extraordinary hoot
and everyone
looked at the clock

I declare said a chicken
the damn thing's stopped ticking
but surprising them all
it went tock

it's midnite she said
time for my bed
and off away home
she flew

shouldn't you?

Delightful nonsense poem! I would love to read this to a class of young children. And I can imagine the drawings that accompany this poem.

TBH though we think of nonsense poems as being for kids i really believe they are more appreciated by grown ups. Thank you Rozina.

            Nonsense! You say, nonsense
            I must declare
I found it to be pure entertainment

I mean it kept me entertained! Sometimes we just need to write some "nonsense" here and there, it keeps the peppiness!

              • dusk arising

My head is full of nonsense most of the time so its a great outlet for me and really fun to write.
