Another Lands Flag in a Poor Country

Saxon Crow

I'm proud of my country

Well I'd like to be

This land of green beauty

Of hope and glory

We are told that this nation

Is tall and strong

It's good to be British

We can do no wrong

But what of the masses

Brought down by taxes?

The starving families

And food Bank rallies?

Or the disparaging looks

From passers by

Turning their nose up

While their Ukraine flags fly

This country with its history

Has a story so old

Of ancient tribes

Of conquerors bold

And yet I see this nation

Lost and alone

Being told who to rescue

Who to taunt

Who to disown

Hypocrisy!

That's the word that applies

Double standard thinking

Wrapped in print paper lies

I want to be proud

I truly do

But this nation is shaming

When it won't care for its own

Such true words SC, those in power who can help only look to see what they can get out of it and not bother about others.

Tis true. It's just in this country sadly

Some people can be very selfish .. and not be caring enough ..

You got me thinking with these words today. Still a great nation but we are brought down by our politicians (and i don't mean the current squabbling over storms in teacups). We need to concentrate on our nations people and wellbeing. With the money we send abroad as foreign aid to countries who's populations despise our western ways we could do such a lot for our suffering people. The immediate future has no sign of improvement on the horizon. Once again our politicians of all hues let us down.

      • Saxon Crow

We let each other down. Until people start looking out for each other the governments will dictate how we live our lives

        Amen!
        ('Bailiffs and Eviction notices
for the needy, by our doorsteps
        while
        Peace envoys and travel fares
        to Cameroon
        for the Trending, war refugees'..)
yet, they want us to believe
after 2 years of covid bailouts
        and a teetering economy
        tax hikes, are because
this great country is helping the so-called, Needy...?
that we're all 'picking up the tax Bill'
        for some notion
        of a societal 'pious humanity'..
        as if..
        just pure conceited, tabloid propaganda!
        while
        our beloved Blighty is haemorrhaging
all our politicians want to do
is cause diversion and disharmony between neighbours
suffering the same plight, side by side
        now blinding each other
by pointing fingers, at each other
'cos some news anchor, said so'
        so now it's 'we' British
        and 'they' everyone, else
        when, in actuality
        it's 'They' in power
        and 'we', all
        the puppets, as ever
        being Fck'd Over!!!

Lol. I think that's summed up nicely LB

National Pride is now FAKE NEWS
Just as the leaders that profess it,
like Boris, May, Trump and Putin
They have put Democratization is on a funeral pyre
But who is to be truly blamed
For didn’t WE put them there

Oh yes and all the while we keep playing their rules we are responsible

I mean wow. Your emotions truly showed and your message rings clear. I enjoy the rhymes you incorporate as well. A message for the people indeed.

Very true for your country, for my country, and others too. Great lines.
