I have a cat, a pet of sorts
Who's friendly as can be
He will say hello to anyone around
As far as the eye can see
He made friends with a dog one day
A strange thing to behold
And it got me wondering
What the other cats thought
When they saw them both alone
Was he a traitor to his own species?
A feline to despise?
Or was he just something that needed
teaching
To stick to your own kind
And so I observed my little furry cat
And noticed he began to change
He'd come home with scratches
And injuries
With bites I could not explain
He seemed depressed
And slightly afraid
And it was a sad thing for me to see
For my cat had always seemed so alive, footloose and fancy free
But now he's become a timid thing
And will hardly leave the house
Instead of being his carefree self
He is as timid as a mouse
And as for the dog who became his friend
I see him from time to time
And there's something diminished from him as well
As if he's spent time quietly crying
And the other cats in the neighbourhood
Pay more interest to my home
Because no one likes a collaborator
When the news tells you who to scorn

A good writing , crow )) sometimes when we get hurt .. we can learn things I guess .. like with the cat ..
It is a confusing world
Thanks VB. It can be a judgemental world as well.
Clever words SC.
Andy
Thanks GF
Good write SC.
Thanks Orchi
Food for thought in this poem. Sometimes society tells us something is wrong, or not the thing to do, when deep in our hearts we dispute what society is saying. But it takes courage to swim upstream, when society is swimming downstream!
Ain't that the truth!
Have to agree with Distant View. With no instruction manuals for life, we're left to trust our hearts. Very inspirational write Sax. 👍
That it does my friend. It would be nice if we all had a spoonful of courage
Aha, bovine and canine hate crime exposed. (Were you tempted to write "when the MEWS tells you who to scorn").
We see so much of it on our TV screens today. Political bias is denied but ever present be it in home politics or international events. It's good to have access to foreign news channels these days to catch some other points of view.
A really enjoyable piece from you today with a lesson for us all to make our own 'judgements' (for sake of a better word) rather than run with the crowd.
I'd be barking up the wrong tree if I did! There's a whole underground of feline fury we have yet to uncover I reckon.
A great thunk inducing write - much enjoyed.
Fanks Mike
This is so clever and meaningful. An enjoyable read.
