Whale Play

Fay Slimm.

Whale Play.

A whale severed the surface,

cut through top with enormous head

and eyed our awe with a watery gaze.

Yet Leviathan knows how to play.

And with an almighty swish

he ventured nearer and turned

circle slowly with gentle grace.

Then gigantic mammoth dived again.

And with another great crash

he emerged head high, floated awhile

as great blow-hole sliced more spray.

Yet massive Goliath nearer came.

And swirling in unbroken symmetry

his skill avoiding upturning the boat,

thrilled us folk by friendly behaviour.

Then the Humpback went on his way.

Amazing creatures. How terrible has been our plundering relationship with these intelligent leviathans in the past.
Your words are of a joyois encounter encouraging all to consider our relationship with all life forms on mother earth anew.

    • Fay Slimm.

Thank you dear Dusk - so glad you liked Whale-Play - - - Your comment wisely encourages more encounters with nature and how I wish humanity could cultivate closer relationships with creatures of both land and sea.

      huh!
      how timely dear Fay
I think it's time to connect with dear Melville
      again
let Ishmael's words, take me aboard
      Ahab's quest
      for futile, conceit's revenge
      laughing along with those
      memorable first few chapters
      and falling back in love
      with Queequeg, Starbuck
      and that 'Pip', character
      linking, another of my fav's
      (written
      barely a decade, later
      by that great Dickens
and his immortal, first few lines
      in 'Great expectations');
      lastly, that angelic Aunt Charity
      adding that graceful tenderness,
      of feminine humanity..
      yup! that's my reading sorted
      for next few days..
      (thank you!
      after all that, yes
      I thoroughly enjoyed
      your Poetry's vivid depiction
      as well.. lol
      'Then gigantic mammoth
      dived again.

      And
      with another great crash
      he emerged
      head high, floated
      awhile
      as great blow-hole
      sliced')
