The Whisperers

Saxon Crow

There's one way that will scare the night

And it's the oncoming of morning light

Where nightmares that have drawn so near

Fade away in silent fear

But this tale I'm yet to share with you

Will make you run for the darkest hole

For mischief of an evil plight

Roams these lands in bright day light

I talk to ye of ancient things

Not elves or pixies or faery queen's

But of wanderers who make demons run

And angels pray to him above

For these foul wisps that walk the world

Whisper darkness when all is well

When the sun shines bright on a clear blue day

These elementals chase joy away

And slowly over a lifetime lived

They chip away at all innocence

They claw a knot into your mind

And there it grows like a rotting vine

Of fear and doubt and worthlessness

Of never deserving happiness

And so they whisper on and on

While the sun shines so very strong

A strength they gain from weakened thoughts

Until your dreams are not your own

And then one day you'll realise

That everyone is full of lies

Everyone must be despised

And everyone deserves to die

That is when they have you whole

Fed on your joy and your fragile soul

And all that's left is a world of pain

And loved ones think you are insane

For they have every good part of you

And there is nothing, no nothing that you can do

So beware of sunbeams on the breeze

Of whispered doubts through rustled leaves

And when you feel a sadness grow

Look to your heart, guard your soul

For ancient things have discovered you

And your happiness they'll consume

So a word to the wise about joyful things

Keep them close let no one in

Not until you're really sure

That sunbeams and shadows are all they are

For there be things that roam this world

The Whispers in the darkness born from hell

The Whispers, say I, and their whispered spells

Probably old gossips - whisperers. Not necessarily old in age, but in the sense of 'continuous gossips'! lol.

    • Saxon Crow

Ah you've met the neighbours then

      • orchidee

Yes, and the twitching net curtains. lol.

A truly eye-opening piece Saxon. Could these whispers be like those voices in our heads that tell us we aren't good enough or worthy? Maybe. Nonetheless, it's truly engaging and your rhymes are always spectacular.

I can tell when you're having one of these dreams... your paws start to run and you quietly bark. I'd wake you but I might get bitten.

        • Saxon Crow

          That's ruff when that happens

        • Rozina

Wow! This is spooky but a fantastic piece.

Thanks Roz. It was fun to write

You've hit the spot where evil lies. Those who plant the seeds of discontent and cultivate it. They play with our heads in a most unforgiving way. Great, thought provoking write!
