Oh oh, here it comes
Spectacular lightning and thunder
I'm safe behind a window
Looking and listening in wonder
Staring through the glass
At the tumult going on outside
Waiting for the storm to end
And then I will decide
To rake up fallen leaves
Or sweep along the drain
Or cut off broken branches
Tomorrow same again
I'd rather take a walk
Along the swollen river
The water rushes by
Its colour polished silver
But the weatherman has said
This pattern will go on
For 1 or 2 more weeks
And then it will be gone
So welcome rain and thunder
As all of us now know
Your power's getting weaker
And soon you'll have to go.

This spectacular photo was taken by my friend Joyce Lai (her IG: jlai_lens) who has kindly shared it with me for my poem. I tried to take a photo of lightning but failed many times. Malaysia has one of the highest number of lightning strikes in the world causing 132 deaths over a 10 year period up to August 2019. Lake Maracaibo (Venezuela) is the lightning capital of the world.
The latest weather forecast for Malaysia predicts a spell of very hot weather coming, lasting until September. Climate change is a probable factor.

Spectacular photograph and a brilliant poem about my favourite weather
Thank you. My friend Joyce took it from her apartment. I am on flat ground but every time I kept missing the shot, so many times.
Lol
You're much better than I am because I would never try
I like everything about this page .. the poetry, the photo and the prose at the end in which you provide some otherwise unknown to me at least interesting and pertinent facts ................................ Neville
Thank you Neville.
Wow, Rozina, you do have it all out there. The weather spectacular that kills you while you photograph it.
Mind you, they do have tornado chasers in America. In Britain, we just call them tossers. Ok, the big yellow thing is coming out, time for a heat. You stay safe, deligate the sweeping.
Thank you Paul.
A great photo, and a great poem! The powers of nature and the elements are awesome sometimes! Hope no damage is done to your property.
Thank you. No damage.
Nature's wondrous and callous
magnificence
unfurled, in word
and a timely, striking image!
thanks for sharing, dear poet
Thank you Mek.
A wonderful poem Rozina. That photo is also magnificent. You wrote this so well, that aftermath of a storm and the quietness of the wait for it to be gone.
Thank you Rocky.
You reminded me of how I feel beneath a thunder and lightening storm. Envigorated, alive, compromised and totally insignificant in the presence of such power.
Well done, I need a cup of tea now x
Thank you dusk.
Incredible photo. One of my favorite weather events is lightening and thunder, and you have captured this so well. There's something about standing on the deck with wind blowing, a streak of lightening followed by that rumble, that just excites me. Thank you for evoking that image with your wonderful words.
Thank you Bella. My friend Joyce took that photo from her apartment. I have tried numerous times but just cannot get that shot!
Wonderful words Rozina and a superb picture.
