Tears On The Pillow

Paul Bell

Tragic little girl
The angels took you away
Now you play in dreams
Shining bright

Tragic little girl
Your room a shrine
To the toys
That play no more

Tragic little girl
Playing in the clouds
Watching mummy
Hoping

Tragic little girl
Screaming
Mummy please
Don’t kill me

Tragic little girl
Breathing slowly
A mother's kiss
Tears on the pillow

Tragic little girl
New baby
Toys are alive
Whilst the cradle rocks.

Well the fourth stanza honestly surprised me, especially with the original context I gave the previous one. This worked really well, Paul!

    that these words
    are someone's daily, reality
    of an embattled life
    is heart wrenchingly, obscene!
    in the words of Bukowski:
''Pain is absurd, because it exists
    nothing more.''
from 'the tragedy of the leaves'
    (a memorable read, dear Poet
    thank you!)

Sure sad for anyone losing a child.

    • Rocky Lagou

Yeesh, such a sad journey. I know maltreatment and neglect during childhood can leave serious scars, and this was an example of that. But the end seems to be the fact that this little girl now has a child of her own, and hopefully she can start anew.

        Kids never get a break

To lose one yet have another requires great courage. Your tragic tale shows the strength of the human spirit. A terrific poem. - Phil A.

My mother lost 3 daughters. Unimaginable pain.

That must have been hard on your mum.

Very sad words Paul. Children should always be protected and loved.
