Neglect Not The Gift

Tune: Ach Gott Und Herr

('Strengthen for service, Lord, the hands')

1 Timothy 4 v.11-16

***********

Paul says to Timothy, Let none

Despise you, let work be done

Be example to believers

That there be no deceivers

An example in conduct, word

Your way of life be seen, heard

In love, true in spirit, so be

In faith, and in purity

Attend to reading, exhorting

Encouraging each good thing

Wise teaching, and not neglecting

The gift in you professing

The gift given by prophecy

When elders laid hands, so be

On you, meditate, meletao*

Aligned in the Spirit's flow

Give yourself wholly to these things

Thus your life profiting brings

To you and to all, take heed to

Yourself, and the teaching too

Continue in them, for doing

So you shall salvation bring

To yourself and to them that hear

Your, Christ' image more appear

* meletao (mel-le-toe) = Greek for 'meditate'.

We should all try to be as upstanding and morally good as we can, whilst still being true to ourselves. Do our best, and hope for the best.

I will quote a Kesha song:
"This is a hymn for the hymnless."

To be of service in the spirit of love and humility, in the fulfillment of prophecy, that is the expression of salvation in our daily lives. Thanks for sharing this Pauline admonition.
