Not A Royalist Poem

Saxon Crow

A jubilee?! For the queen?

Gawd bless 'er

Gawd bless her majesty

She's been a diamond

Our regal ma'am

Brought in tourism

From far away lands

Made us feel pride

In this country of hers

Despite all the poverty

To cover 'er costs

Despite all the claims

Of sexual assaults

Of associating with molesters

From her misguided sons

Gawd bless 'er

And all she's been through

A stiff upper lip

And a character aloof

But I wish 'er well

On this Jubilee day

£1.3 billion that's all we'll pay

Despite that she could afford

To give us all a free treat

But still we'll celebrate her in the streets

So 'ats off to ya your majesty

I'll drink to your 'ealth

Long life and prosperity

To you and your wealth

you hinted on some negativities that are ignored probably because of social status............... I suppose the truth has been freed at least, but please I'm not blasting royalty, I'm just enjoying the art

Here here. Gawd knows what sexual misadventures the past of royalty hides for there was a time when such matters were hushed away. I'm sat watching the preparation for the trooping of the colours on TV as I write this. I have memories of being there on Horseguards as a very young child at least twice watching it actually happen. No nation has a pagentry which can compare to ours on such occasions. Proud? Yes.

I'm proud of my country just not the hierarchy in it!

Cynical? I'd never be cynical about that lovely old lady. 'Onest Guv

Erm, you've not reduced it to something I read: 'A couple of days off, for an old lady who has ruled the country a long time, and cost us millions!'
Doh! Just when I got into the royal genre.

                Nope. I was being kind.

Hehe, this is actually gold. Although I'm an American I can definitely get a good chuckle from these backhanded remarks. Well done Saxon!

Thanks Rocky. Glad you found something in it you could appreciate

It is true that so much money will be spent on this that could go to those who have nothing.

What amazes me is that even in this day-an-age masses are still willing to kowtow to a single entity

As a portrait of the ambivalence felt by (I hope) many re Her Maj and royalty generally all tied up in engaging verse this would be hard to beat.
                  Many thanks Sax.
PS: why are you proud of your country? Did you ask to be born a Brit? 😊
