It's a 'pet horror' for me
Hearing stores of 'cutting up'
Though I can understand why people do it
Some emotional pain, taken out on oneself
Out with the razor or knife, or whatever
Finding a release
A 'letting off of steam' as a pressure cooker
It shakes me inside to read it
An emotional shuddering
Heard one tale of one who sliced to the bone
But since passed away, unrelated to this
RIP, troubled soul
It's not for genteel people to know every detail
It's too much for them
It could unbalance their delicate mind
Yet hoping, praying
Such cutters-up find healing and peace
Of body, and of soul and spirit
An acceptance and love of self
Being 'good enough'
Or 'as good as anybody else'
Not meaning, go on ego trips though
Of selfishness and greed
A person or pet, or both as a companion
Can really help
A belief and faith can come to help most of all
In my view
Don't do it - think about the outcome if you do it ......
In one sense, don't even think about it

- Comment from author about the poem: Ooh 18+ I think, or Fido will bark at ME! Singing again soon, no doubt. Some lines of a 'pet horror' of mine for today. There are soothing videos, some for hours, even one 24 hours long!

This is not me, thankfully, nor is it so for millions of people, thankfully. There are troubled souls though.
I kinda liked the sentiment behind this Mr. O .. it was a kind thought ..
Sadly tho' self harmful behaviours in all their many forms is a complex topic and many, if not most individual that undertake such behaviour, are not attention seeking, poor copers or inadequate .. but rather have learnt to adopt patterns of behaviour that serve primarily to release inner tension .. hence the term tension release ..

Thanks Neville.
So hard to understand the many layers involved in such behaviors. Who can truly understand the human psyche, and all it's aberrations. Nicely written my friend, you show compassion for those unfortunate souls who more often than not have suffered abuse themselves.
Thanks Bella.
I have known people who harm themselves in this way and I hope that I have helped them by listening to them.
Andy
Thanks Gold. I'm sure you have been, and are, a good listener. Some folk attempt jumping off a bridge when they hear me sing. Only a bridge in a play area about 12 inches high, with soft landing surface.
