Tune: Herongate
('It is a thing most wonderful')
Romans 5 v.1
*********
By faith we can be justified
Through our Lord Jesus, none beside
And so have peace with God, Christ made
The way, and for our sins has paid
Taking our sins upon the cross
Suffering to redeem our loss
Trusting in Him, counted righteous
By God, for Christ atones for us
Peace, not to strive to earn our way
By good words and deeds we display
Self-righteousness shall save us not
But saved by Christ our happy lot
Restored to God by Jesus, see
He died, then rose for you and me
His sacrifice acceptable
Offering Himself for us all
So welcomed, not refused, outcast
Whate'er our present or our past
Salvation in Christ we may find
He reconciles us, loving, kind
Thus can mankind have peace with God
For Christ came to us, this earth trod
His work of salvation does show
That sins forgiven we may know
