A Right Royal......

Doggerel Dave

Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. 😂

Oh please just put me out with the garbage -

My carcass I mean, after I’ve carked it.

I've just taken a trip to who knows where…

(Likely nowhere) – and I won’t mind one bit.

I’m not up for a religious debate;

Just accept at that point I am not there.

No funeral please, no “Alas poor Dave” -

Live - absent yourself from nonsense so drear.

Now why have I thrown this thing together?

Her Maj’s demise has silenced world news,

And all day and every day I suffer -

Pomp and circumstance push me to the booze.

Here my tissue is not allowed for use -

I lived in UK when mad cow was rife.

This disqualifies me from a donation;

No chance to be useful at end of life.

I try hard not to make a connection

Between mad cow disease and those mourners,

But I tell you, here in Australia

We are also a bunch of conformers.

    Did like her maj, but this really is getting on a bit. Sad that Charlie has to start work at 73. Sign of the times, I suppose.

      Thanks for a response, Paul. True – Early retirement for me was the way to go. And anyway I understood that all work was going to become redundant as computerisation and automation took over…
      Nothing much against the Queen either – she got lumbered with the job after all.
      Me? Very ambivalent re Royalty. Memories as a child of a trip halfway across London to watch, among a milling throng, the king go by. Half minute thrill if you include the trailing entourage. And later another trail across the river to watch the coronation on a tiny black and white TV at Gran’s. Why? - I’ve asked myself for years.
      Further, as I may have already mentioned, Royalty etc does bring in the tourist dollar – although I doubt if any Govt has had the courage to do a comprehensive audit, costs v revenue……
      I do watch The Crown – a great soapy.

        The Queen was value for money, don't know about the rrst of them.

          Revised, in particular the final stanza - I hope it makes more sense........................................................................................... 'Who cares?' - shouts from the gallery 😄

          The old conform or be deformed is why there had been a period of anti-establishmentarianism which of late has lapsed into an almost mindless conformity. Perhaps tomorrow the sun shall shine differently. Thanks for sharing.

            And round and round it goes.... You never know your luck on a boiling planet.....
            Great visit - Thanks.

            God save the queen. Oh too late. I too did like her and her image. Nevertheless, royalty does seem a little old fashioned. Don't know for sure but she seemed a better option than Charles, who came here a few years ago to play polo.

              But You didn't have a choice really, did you? Succession is the key.
              My attitude is very much 'live and let live' Unless the other's religious practices, sexual proclivities, politics or anything else interferes with me. What interferes with me here is the amount of down time world news gets when it is almost completely gazumped by a single death. And it isn't over - we've got a coronation yet to come....
