Teaching Respect.

Goldfinch60

There we were

Fighting our way round the supermarket,

Among so many people,

When suddenly we were hit by a trolley,

The trolley was being pushed by a young boy.

His parents shouted at him.

“Look where you are going!”

They apologised and made him apologise.

As far as we were concerned

It was just one of this things that happened.

And told that family that all was OK,

Not to worry.

We all moved on into the next aisle,

Suddenly the little boy appeared again,

Came up to us and said,

“I am so sorry I did that”

I looked at him and said,

“Do not worry all is fine”.

He said thank you and started to walk back,

Back to his parents who were watching.

I called him back,

Held out my hand for him to take,

And we shook hands

To show all was well.

He looked puzzled,

He went back to his parents

And I do hope they will explain,

Explain to him what a handshake means,

That it is a sign of forgiveness.

I am sure that his parents will do this

As they seem to be raising him with respect,

Respect for all,

And this is so rare these days.

If only all children could be shown,

Be shown how wonderful respect can be.

I wish young boy well in his life.

Lovely and good going there Andy. I had a student once by the name of Ryan. He was the politest child you ever did sea. He was always in the naughty corner but he had manners to match his innate cheek. He will go far in life.

It is so good to see children with politeness and respect Rik. Thank you.

I gotta dodge them electric-powered wheelchairs. Sometimes they seem to come at ya at 100mph!

      • Goldfinch60

        They surely do Orchi.

And another thing - those electric scooter thingys! And why are there 'No cycling' signs at our shops, but people still cycle? They get deserved dirty looks.

          ….So my parents taught me to say ‘Thank You’;
This stood me in good stead over the years.
Modified, casualised it remains true -
Sometimes apposite is a simple ‘Cheers’.

          • Goldfinch60

            Very true Dave. Cheers.

you can beat an egg etc etc but you just can't beat good manners 🙂

            • Goldfinch60

You certainly cannot beat good manners Neville.

Well said. It truly has become a “cold cruel world”

                this, that distinction
                between those who are gifted
                biological mum's and dad's
                and true 'Parents'!
                (reminds me of the saying:
'takes a village to raise a child')
                a wonderful read, Andy
glad to know, not all is lost
                yet

                • Goldfinch60

Thank you Mek, yes it is glad to know that all is not lost.

A wonderful story. To me a handshake is a sign of respect. I knew a man that on a handshake lost close to a million dollars, no signed contract, no witnesses just his word. That respect for oneself, and others is what a handshake means to me. Wonderful write.

                  • Goldfinch60

Thank you soren, yes a handshake is so meaningful in life.

This is so touching dear friend. He seems to have qualities at a young age that will take him far. So glad you gave him his due.

                    • Goldfinch60

Thank you Bella, this is all due to his parents who are bringing him in the right way.
