Dear father,
The way you expect me to be is something I cannot live up too!
All my tears I have cried in silence because of you. Hiding all my real truth from and because of you!
Look, I love and care about you, I really really do but I can't live like this anymore. Believe me or not, I don't care.
You say you own me and I can't live my life yet but then you go and say why do I hide myself away, your contradicting yourself all the time.
First you say your proud then call us lazy. First you say you can help us but then say were "too young" to feel this way! First you say you love us then call us aggravating! First you say you support me, then say I was born a girl so Im a girl. So which is it?
Your confusing and way way to hard to please. I feel like a disappointment because I can't live like you want me to.
Im sorry that Im the one hurting you, but just so you know your doing it to me too.
I love you so so so much but please let me go. Let me live and be me.
Im sorry.
Sincerely,
your aggravating oldest son

Literally, literalllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, my life in a nutshell. My relationship with my father is as turbulent as it gets, and to see there are other queer individuals out there who can relate to my struggle is so uplifting. We are a network, a community, who must support each other. Just know that you are who you are and no-one can change that. The way you ended this poem with an italicized “son” is so powerful. You are loved, please don’t forget that. I have a rant here on MPS directed to my own dad, I’ll link it to this comment if you’re interested:

If im being honest you are one of my comfort poets, your work is amazing! Also Im so sorry that you can relate to this, it sucks have daddy issues. Also yeah I needed to emphasize that I. Am. Not. A. Girl. and they cant change that.
I always like seeing you comment, it's nice :>
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗You're literally so kind.
Oh poet... I hope you know you are not alone. As a member of the queer community who has severe issues with my own father I understand your rage. I see the pain. You say you're on the verge of another attempt, but I have one request. Write another poem. Everyday, write a poem about why you are so angry, so pained, so that someday someone sees your work and knows that you didn't live in vain. You can inspire others to write about their lives and to be as incredible poet as you. Keep writing my darling, the world waits for your words. I'm on the edge of my seat.
