Tale Of Thomas

Tune: Albinus

('Jesus lives! Thy terrors now...')

John 20 v.26-29

*********

After some eight days again

Disciples were gathered there then

In one room, with Thomas too

Then cam Jesus to them anew. Alleluia!

Doors were shut, but He appeared

Said, Peace to you, unto them neared

Said to Thomas, Reach here your

Finger, behold my hands' wounds sure. Alleluia!

And put forth your hand and touch

My wounded side, and know this much

It is I, be not faithless

But believing, not comfortless. Alleluia!

Thomas said, My Lord, my God

You who on this earth have sure trod

You same one, though crucified

Were, now risen, though you had died. Alleluia!

Jesus said, Thomas, cause be

You have believed, for you see me

Blessed are they that have seen not

Yet have believed, happy their lot. Alleluia!

    That's a powerfully true message.

      Thanks 2781.
It might have been one of the other disciples, not there the first time Jesus appeared. Then it may have been 'Doubting Peter / John / James / etc, rather than unfortunate 'Doubting Thomas'. Now that's stuck through history, though he did believe, though he had to see first.

I like the bit about those that don't see, kind of like the last being first, I think sometimes!

As a kid I felt closest to the Thomasian personality... needing confirmation and assurance.
