A Taste of Tears

Bella Shepard

There was the faint taste of dried tears upon her cheek

As he gently brushed his lips against her skin

Tears shed silently in the night

Gentle weeping for what he could only guess

He knew her well

And yet at times she was a mystery

There was a silent part of her that he would never understand

That she would never show

But those tears belonged to her

And to her alone

It wasn't his place to disturb them

But simply let them flow

And hold her

  • Comment from author about the poem: The first line popped into my head for some reason, and seemed a shame to waste. I think maybe we all have a little spot inside that holds something special, be it sad or happy, just for us.

Wish I could have worked it out (the male role here), Bella.
So thanks for the solution - albeit just slightly late (but not too late).....

A touching write of sensitivity and care. A tribute to boundaries and love.

Thank you dear friend for such understanding words. Boundaries and love can go hand in hand at times and, to give space when and where space is needed.

          a great point, dear Poet
(we learn from too young, an age
'to kiss things better', and yet later
          we understand, all that does
is force that person to pretend
          all is better, while repressing
          their unresolved, feelings and hurt
          thus, much better
to vibe and sync, with those
          we care about
'knowing them', just like reading a book
          once
every time we read it again, something new
becomes clear to us, if it's a book
          with meaningful, depth
          and
so do the conversations and situations
          we share
          with those we care, enough
to invest our time and empathy
          in)

Such beautiful words of wisdom my dear friend, you truly understand my sentiment. To love completely is to allow and support. Thank you!

Thank you my friend, what more can we do but hold onto each other through this journey of life.

Thank you dear Teddy for your kind words. Sometimes it's the silent tears shed that bring blessed relief.

Something I've learned through my almost 60 years is that we do not need to know every answer, we do not need to fix everything, we just need to be there...and support, console and simply love. Your words speak of this and the gentleness all must possess to be there for others. Wonderful!

                  • Bella Shepard

Your words are so touching, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sometimes we must simply "let it be".
