A Trio of Definition

AuburnScribbler

An urban stroll, is like an online troll,

as beelines are cut short,

by loud, brash preachers,

and busy creatures,

who really should have thought!

Thus, a rural ramble, could be less a gamble,

as the way is more clear,

though there be deep ravines,

with wild beasties,

you’re so alone, oh dear!

So, I am a townie, the compromise of county,

I both walk the grey and green,

though I cannot escape,

the comments from apes,

upon the familiar street!

I hope that you enjoy, I hope that you enjoy living where you are, and as always, please do stay safe everyone, wherever you are.

This is marvelously written, dear poet. Your rhymes, your alliteration, and your images just flow so cohesively in this magnum opus. I also adore the theme, being a townie myself (literally born and bred in the heart of Miami), I can relate very much.

    • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Rocky and for your very kind praise, it's very much appreciated.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the poem, and I must admit, I am a tad jealous of your home town of Miami by the sea, I love the sea and ocean, but living in Nottinghamshire, I've got to travel for my seaside fix.

I hope that all is well.

Miami is lovely, but the scorching heat can become unbearable at times! Lol. Btw Nottinghamshire looks so picturesque. It's my dream to travel to England, I adore the British ways of being, us Americans are so uncultured.

When you have the balance so right, who be the apes?!
I’ve lived in town, while I now live in a city. Preference town every time. The city is a large machine which can be very alienating. However, paradoxically large swathes of the city, particularly if they are well established and not new developments, form themselves into villages within. One other advantage would be quick access to medical treatment (a plus for them of a certain vintage such as myself!)
When younger I lived in a town, popn 70,000, and this was a nice comfortable size for me. However nothing stays the same: now 185,000.
Your post has a great truth there, expressed in a real poetic way, as per Rocky (above).

Thanks for the read and for favouriting this poem, Doggerel Dave, it's very much appreciated.

The apes are us, humanity, who do like to talk an awful lot, and sadly, most of the time we do come out with a lot of dangerous hot air indeed.

By your astute commentary, you've definitely got the gist, and I'm glad that you enjoyed the poem with the same enthusiasm as Rocky.

I hope that all is well.

I am lucky in that within a few minutes I can move from the town to the countryside and enjoy my life with Nature's glory.

Thanks for the read Andy, and I'm glad that you have an ideal situation with your local travels.

Nottinghamshire boasts the best of both worlds, but as per my comment to Rocky, I do love the sea.

I hope that all is well.
