Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
I do return sometimes... occasionally...
I do return sometimes... occasionally...
Deep is my distaste for love poetry:
“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”
Go do something useful, like pen a play…
The hose is missing, so this be my spray.

Yes you! Love is wonderful.
Andy
Don't think you got it, Andy. Poetic love is mostly crap. Real love is a totally different species.
spray it like it is, why don'tcha .. 🐧👍
I try - hard to keep a grip on reality round here though, I tell ya....
Only four lines long, but it gave me the laugh of the day. I kept rereading and laughed every time. I think, dear Dave, you should say what you really mean, lol. I get where you're coming from, and I just love you my friend. Priceless!
Bella, this is no laughing matter, I’ll have you know!!!!!!!!!
Not to worry, I know where what and how…. And occasionally you can bump into a bloke like Seamus Heaney who knows what he is talking about….

Thanks for a call I value very much.
I think Seamus Heaney knows what he's talking about, as do you. I read the poem, and it is beautiful in its simplicity and imagery, love and commitment. What more need be said? Thank you dear Dave for suggesting it. Take care!
More than welcome, Bella - anytime I can find something interesting.
I'm really glad I passed 'Scaffolding' on.
Actually, this is not the first time I've nagged about this:

Roses are red violets are blue... I used to write stuff like that but it's been too many years and I guess my testosterone has fallen. Now it's just laments about growing old, pain and loss.
I know - the agony of it all.
But real love, so much more deep, complex and abiding is very many miles away from poetic nonsense.
Hope you find love and the hose! 🙂
Got all the love I need - the real stuff', thanks.
The hose was actually deliberately hidden. Happened like this: (a "the making of" bonus!) when hunting for my second line, I thought one about his love being like a red red rose was Shakespearian, but no - belonged to Robert Burns and as I didn't want a resumption of Scottish v English wars after so long had to take hose (hose - rose woulda been perfect!) away quietly..................
Brilliant.
Thanks.
Haa, I bet some love poems
are a delight! 🌟
Yup, 'specially the ones
I bet you could write! ✍️
Thanks for sharing my friend! ☺️
Best regards ✌️ Thad
Wouldn't dare try, Thad - I get into enough trouble as it is. Thanks for hauling this one out of retirement.👍
Jane Austen poked fun more or less at it in her novels, and never tied the knot. I'll still dearly love Shakespeare, and write sonnets, and you'll please forgive me? Or else you're reminding me of my inimitible late mother. Thank you very much for sharing.
This woz a long time ago now Missy. how did you find it? Oh - I know.....
Got nothing against sonnets - yours or Shakespeare's actually - just wanted to fire a shot across the bows of someone up top who wanted to introduce 'Love' here again and encourage a rash of 'Love' poems....... aaah....
