I have come through
the wildfires and
abject poverty.
The sardine days filled
with ghoulish women and
cowardly men.
Now, I have four
walls, and a table to
write at.
I've decorated my castle:
pictures and tapestries,
a raven figurine sitting
on a stump by the aloe vera.
I have a bookshelf from
the curb; all my
favorites are on it.
I turned my brother onto,
A Confederacy of Dunces
I hear him laugh from his
4 walls.
He escaped the
parasitical nights and the
neon souled undead.
It's a great life if
you don't succumb to
the crowd and the slugs that
just slide on through.
Now, it's the simple
things that bring me pleasure:
house plants, coffee brewing,
and the sound of my
neighbor watering his grass.
I think I will get a goldfish.
All perfect and orange.
And on the fringe, I hear
that feral cat, howling in
the night, without his
4 walls.

"it's the simple things that bring me pleasure" Yes indeed!!!
Thank you Liz.
Fabulous poetry, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger I was brought up in London in the 70/80/90 it's the simple things that catch our eye and ground us for sure. Your imagery is spectacular brought me to places I myself had forgotten. ❤️
Thank you so much.
Wow! There is so much here with purposely angled directional changes that require a prejudice and then a blank slate analyst. Gotta read it more. I salute the fact all the content is alive but I think it would me naive to state a certain ability to unravel. It’s a journey I’ll enjoy
Thank you brother.
Good write T.
Incredible in its honesty, you describe these objects inside the “four walls” bringing a sense of security and warmth. The relief comes with the realization, that they also bring limitations in freedom and movement like the Gold fish inside a fish bowl. The Feral cat as the alter ego is still howling and telling the other (darker) side of the story outside of the four walls. Exquisite and rich work…
Thank you so much for the kind comment.
Those four walls are so important to many of us Thomas.
Andy
Thank you.
I am pleased you have a place to write.
Thank you.
Our four walls can define us all. I'm sure the living quarters of every person are distinctly theirs. As writers we prioritize our writing area. We spend a great deal of time imagining the abodes of others. Your "4 Walls" takes us on a journey through the times of your life, and seems to give a sense of desire to be free like "that feral cat."
It's a most interesting journey, one that I thoroughly enjoyed, and hope to read more from you. Thanks for posting. - Phil A.
Thank you very much
4 walls is all that it takes to make most men happy and send some men mad .. its not a lot to ask, is it really 4 walls .. I really enjoyed my visit Thomas .. Neville
Thank you, my friend.
In my mind, the simple things are the most elegant. We all need our own castle, even if it is only in our mind's eye.
I agree. Thank you.
