Death is stalking me.
It watches me play cards,
smoke cigarettes, and
drink beer.
It took my parents, two
brothers, and all my friends.
It got Chris last week.
20 bottles of whiskey in
seven days, I suppose that
would kill anyone.
They found him on the
railroad tracks.
Death is stalking me.
I won't cheat it.
I won't escape it;
but before it gets me,
I bet I finish
this poem.

Powerful meditation!
Thank you.
This made me thinkof the Anais Nin quote: 'I postpone death by living, by suffering, by error, by risking, by giving, by losing.'
🪶Great write!
Thank you, great quote, I just glanced to my left and spied her book, Little Birds on my shelf. lol
brilliant inspiration she is!
yes, do you like Henry Miller?
I've never heard of him ðŸ«
I looked him up and he seems top notch
I love a writer who speaks freely and from the soul
He and Anais were lovers.
I noticed that! I'm so intriqued nowðŸ¤
Well done! And Yes. You showed death this time and finished the poem. Every small victory against death is a large victory for life!
Well done in finishing the poem Thomas.
Andy
Thank you Andy.
Tell it to piss off.
Exactly.
I always love well written works on real life situations, this poem has weight and it's own gravity.
Thank you, Sir. Much appreciated.
I am an admirer of the concrete in your writings!
Thank you Thomas, for sharing your inspirational talent with us,
Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
I’m so sorry for you loss. Secondly,I absolutely love this. Death is stalking us all and in the end it will unfortunately get us.
Thank you for the comment.
I believe I possess no retrospective or introspective that can sneak past my hardened bias and trained denial about my own demise. Rather , much like in your piece I view it through my personal loss of friends , my journey forced to rearrange , I just don’t like it. The inevitability for me is always a swim across a calm shallow sea.
Thanks for the read and comment.
