The Clock is Ticking People

Accidental Poet

The second hand still moving

Winding down till our time is up

Who knows how long we have

When suddenly, that’s all we got

The rush of hustled feet

Running in fear of the unknown

Tears and screams pierce the night

Miracle prayers are hastily thrown

Our environment choking on pollution

All species going extinct

The demise of planet Earth

Probabilities clear and distinct

Racial unrest

Hate crimes on every corner

Disrespect of animal and human rights

Peace advocate mourners

Racist maniacs

Claiming superiority above all others

Blind to the truth

We’re all just sisters and brothers

World leaders poised to press the button

The sky ablaze with nuclear death

As the Earth trembles

Sensing its last breath

Do we not appreciate

The planet we live on

The gift of life

Which humanity thrives upon

Where is our compassion for life

Human trust a thing of the past

Man versus man

A barbarian’s society can’t last

With a flash the lights are gone

Blackness feeding the fear

Closer and closer

Signs of the end are near

Can you feel it?

The clock of life

Winding down to zero

 Slicing time like a knife

Separating the future

From an irresponsible past

Obliterating the present

Even the memories struggle to last

This can’t be happening

It’s like a bad dream

Please wake me up

All too real it seems

What’s that?

The sound of the clock

In dead silence

Tic Tock  Tic Tock  Tic Tock

  • Comment from author about the poem: The Earth is roughly about 4 billion years old. Man has been on the planet for just a fraction of that. Why does man have to provoke the end of our world? For what purpose would it serve? Isn't it time that man grew up and stopped acting like immature children?

I got enough time with KP, and that's a fact! lol. Each day seems like a million years of misery with her. lol.

Worry not Orchi, if the world keeps on this track, KP will be the least of your problems.

Thanks Dave. Some people just won't be happy until everyone else is unhappy. 🙄

Such very true words AP, why are the people in our beautiful world trying to destroy it in all ways imaginable.

We've got two deranged leaders threatening to launch missiles and start ww3. They're like little boys playing a very dangerous game. Only in this game no one wins.
