Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. π
There are artworks sold for umpteen millions,
Accumulated excess in private hands;
Created by artists who had visions
Or perhaps the result of patron’s commands.
So who or what has the wherewithal
To pay this for paint on a square canvas
When many today live with S F all?
Just a different world to the rest of us.
Forgers are anonymous in their guises
Some bottom feeders for the tourist crowd.
As art buyers too come in many shapes and sizes:
Some connoisseurs with extreme wealth endowed.
The efforts many forgers have gone to
Ensures their work has authenticity
And success (ask van Meegeren, please do).
Research underwrites their duplicity.
Part of what should be a worldwide movement
To level an unequal society,
Forgers by example provide judgement
On those the rich who never achieve satiety.

Now here is a topic I have never seen in a poem, a true first. It takes an artist to fake an artist. I wonder if anyone out there is forging your poems? Good write Dave
Not worth the trouble, I'd say, Soren - but don't give them Ideas.........
Good stuff.
Agreed π
Your vivid words share my frustration about the art βmarketβ. ART is the one luxury, good taste can only afford, in my opinion.
I watch the UK version of Antiques Roadshow - full of wonder at the exquisite artistry involved in the creation of the objects presented. But each object is subjected to a 'valuation'. at the end of the presentation. That judgement is merely an estimate of market value, depending on supply and demand plus other factors and has nothing to do with the skills artistry and time involved in its creation. I loathe this element of the programme.
Me too!
Those forgers are brilliant artists in their own right but don't get any money for their own works Dave.
Andy
Yes Andy - you've got it. They blow a big hole in the monster art market.
Now I must paint a picture of Fido. It will fetch millions! lol.
Millions of what exactly? Blow flies?π
No flies on Fido - I mean pounds, or is it dollars where you are? lol.
Might be on the paint. At no point was I casting aspersions in Fido\'s direction. This may be a case of aspirations and ambition not engaging in a confrontation with reality. To take a simple example: an Australian dollar is worth only half a GP pound.....not an artist,.... not a businessman - what's left, apart from prayer and... wait for it...hymns....Perhaps poetry, if you behave yourself..... come on - up the ante......
So you have a Fido too - your pic?!
That's me, you clot - at my most benign................
I am indeed honoured Sir Dog ..
and shall sign off as Sir Prised of Somerset .. ππ
Zomerset - where the Zider apples grow.... just an honourable mention...don't get too inebriated...
Don't know much about the art market, but I know this - For every million-dollar painting, there are a million other painting sitting on people's walls, decorating their refrigerators, or cast aside in their workspace. For every artwork of renown there are a million cherished drawings loved by but a few, A well spoken poem. - Phil A.
Thanks Phil. I admit my piece doesn't add up to a very coherent argument. I just threw together from different perspectives a couple of thoughts:
- Why should anyone (and there are many of them) have enough wealth to be able to afford millions for a painted canvas?
- I admire art forgers.
I heard a story yesterday about A1 being the next big threat to artists!
Forgery for the masses,
I wonder how they'll divide the spoils?
How do news media divide up their stories? Ignore each one - let all the contrived yarns play themselves out, while news outlets wait for the next big thing and a bunch of random commentators they can quote.
Yes, it's all seems generic.
Great read my friend!! π
Haa, some forgers are
better artists than the
artists they try to forge! π±
Nothing escapes your
superb poetic vision! π―π
Best regards βοΈ Thad
Careful now, my head might swell so much I won't be able to get through my own doorway.
Thanks for the read anyway, Thad.
