As my body is eroded by the waves of time
and I fight the battle against hordes innumerable
I rest a while, in memory of those sublime
having taken on all odds in battles memorable
I think of ten thousand against only twenty one Sikhs
as they fought to the last man in the battle of Saragarhi
of Agis abandoned, against a whole army, fighting on his knees
Dian Wei alone against enemy forces as a charging sea
The lone man in Tianamin square that faced off against a tank's powers
Benkei pierced by innumerable arrows, in death refused to fall
A lone Viking at Stamford bridge holding off all Saxons for hours
never for a truce did he call
When confronted with insurmountable odds
to face them resolute with out fear
One does not have to be one of the gods
just a man, like them, I am still here

this is not just for history lovers, is it .. this is excellent ..
Thanks Neville no I deliberately didn't add any notes so as not to weigh this down with history. If people were interested they could look up each one and most should be familiar with the lone man in Tianamin square since it is contemporary. I appreciate your kind words.
Your title said it all. What emotion and imagery 🌹
Thanks Teddy I appreciate the review, kind of you to stop by.
From the sublime to the nutty - Man has often faced seeming 'feats of human stength', or seeking to push back the boundaries......me too, don't ya know, being married to KP! lol.
True my friend pushing boundaries always gets me in trouble, like pushing the guy in front of me in line. Thanks for the read.
Wonderful words and so true. I too am still here.
