A snowy day, a morning walk
And pray, what did I see?
A wind blown shape upon the road
Right there ahead of me
It looked just like a little ghost
So I thought I’d have some fun
I bent to give it eyes and mouth
And smiled when I was done
As I turned to walk away
I though I heard a sound
The morning, cold and silent
There was no one else around
And as I stood in wonderment
The little ghost did speak
A tiny voice so thin and soft
I mistook it for a squeak
As I listened carefully
Words began to form
Could this be real, or just a dream
My thoughts began to swarm
Perhaps I should walk on
Pay the little ghost no mind
After all it’s just a fantasy
Or so I was inclined
“Did you put me here”, she asked
“How did I come to be
On this cold and snowy day
Would you like to play with me”
Then her little mouth
Became a great big smile
"Will you keep me company
If only for a while"
So the little ghost and I
Spent some time that day
Sharing rhymes and riddles
As the time just slipped away
The sun crept higher in the sky
And warmed the road below
Her little form began to fade
The time had come to go
As I continued down the road
I slowly turned to see
The little ghost, a shadow now
Was looking back at me
And as I walked I thought of this
That life is brief you know
A little stain upon the earth
Until it’s time to go

I can picture this scene so easily in my mind. The little friend of a ghost to brighten your day. Now forever a small ghostly friend at your side everywhere you go. Excellent poem Bella. ππ
Your comment just makes me smile all over, such sweet and tender words. Thank you, dear friend!
Looks a bit like a cat to me! lol. A tale (not tail!): A little girl did not want to go to church. She did not want to meet the ghost - the Holy Ghost/the Holy Spirit!
Now if I'd heard a "meow" it would have been a completely different story. And if she'd been a naughty little girl she'd have good reason to avoid the Holy Spirit (growing I was taught Holy Ghost, but that was back in the middle ages, now I'm dating myself). Take care Orchi, and be good, you never know who's watching. lol
I remember when..... I was in the Middle Ages....do you too?! lol.
Oh yes!! lol
Nice text with some ''little prince" accents !
So good of you to read, my friend, your comment is greatly appreciated!
Great metaphor and symbolism.
Thank you so much Thomas, it was such a nice little oddity that I had to do something with it. Take care my friend, have a great Sunday
A great message again as an allegory and ending so well in the last lines.
"And as I walked I thought of this
That life is brief you know
A little stain upon the earth
Until itβs time to go"
You are the kindest my friend, and you always inspire me. Thank you!!
I must confess, upon my first reading, I inadvertently let out an almost silent expletive that I more often write down than ever I actually say put loud .. so for that, I hold my head in shame ..
My visit here this early mane has been a real treat for me Bella on what is possibly going to be our first dry day in ages .. We have had no snow here for years but you took my hand and allowed me to walk alongside you .. and I could see and sense every single thing you described .. (your photo was incredible too) ..
indeed, I thought the whole composition worthy of great merit and you should at the very least enter it into a competition ..
There is only one small thing that
I would challenge you on .. and I know you well enough by now to know, that you know really ..
and that is that it's not just the first two stanza's that are true is it my friend .. the one at the very end that delivers the coup de grace is also so very true too and no small thing by any means, at all ..
All the very best of All Good Things,
Me π
Dear You, I'm sitting here with my head in my hands, and tears just about to fall, overwhelmed and so very touched by the sentiment of your words. You've given me something truly unexpected, there aren't enough words in the world to thank you. Never hold your head down in shame Dear Nev, you are beloved in every way. You've given this old lady an incredible start to my day. God bless dear friend!

It is amazing what words you can find when you see the way Nature shows itself to us Bella.
Andy
You are so very right dear Andy. I know that you cherish as I do all that nature is, and to share that is a gift extraordinare. Thank You!!
Kudos on your rhyme dear Bella and the wisdom and the imagery. Superb and a true thrill to read. πΉ
Thank you so much Teddy, it is a joy to share with you!
Already has been highlighted that final stanza Bella, so all I can do is second (or third, or join the queue in endorsing that motion...) But the whole poem engaged and ensured that I got there. Wondrously simple, but greatly admired.
Thank you so much dear friend for your kind of words. So very glad you are there, to share. Take care!
Ending in a surfeit of rhyme - thanks, Bella - I'm overwhelmed. π
" for your kind of words", what was that suposed to mean? I meant "for your kind words". Looks like that preposition I misplaced the other day finally turned up in the darndest place. God bless my friend!
When you stir words the way you do, there's bound to be the odd splash, Bella - a quick wipe solves all!!
Oh, I love it! I also missed a "p" in supposed.
