Far From The Madding Crowd

Cassie58

i’d rather be in the company of a

dead poet than no poet at all

so armed with Seamus Heaney

who understands my outside world

far more than the living and is close

to emotions that can split seams

even though he has no heart beat

or blood pumping through his veins

i find clear water where the lake

creeps closer to the lane in winter

it is summer magic and the surface

ripples are blinded by sun

my back arched against a tree in shade

this quiet glade hidden by a canopy

dense greenery thick with contentment

serenity reigns as life’s dross is far away

Company of a poet always makes everything so beautiful and romantic. Even though no blood pumping through their body but poetry in their eyes is enough.
    Loved your poem.
The words, rhythm everything was so perfect.

Got a thing for literary figures with names beginning with 'H', have you, Cassie? Dead or alive, it's the poem which counts, and you have found the perfect combination, with, for the moment freedom from worldly care. Perfect.

        • Cassie58

I do admire Heaney’s poetry. Thank you Dave. Nothing like the company of a poetry book on a summer day, away from it all. Happy Wednesday.

Lovely, you can feel everything in it, the need for peace and seclusion to read the wonderful words

No poets are really dead, they live as long as their poetry alive. Great write Cassie. 😊👍

Thank you AP. How fabulous to have your poetry read by others long after your demise. That certainly has appeal. All good wishes.

Poetry at it's finest dear Cassie, I just adore the imagery and you just keep sitting under that beautiful shade of a great tree reading your poetry books. I always say one day I shall take a table and a chair to the top of one of these hills and just write with the sky 🤗

                      • Cassie58

Thank you Neville. This lakeside setting beside this canopy of trees is just a perfect place to chill out and read some poetry. Summer magic.
