A Happy Birthday party, you MIGHT say…..

Doggerel Dave

Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. 😂

A friend of mine, Birthday Ninety

Received a card, Happy Eighty.

Hard to know what to make of this:

Could be the sender’s not remiss -

Felt she looks young and spry, that age.

But other factors hard to gauge:

(“There’s no demand for Ninety cards -

All gone by then - forget Regards”).

Further there were some suggestions

Including for example, mentions

Of return to the envelope,

Where perchance one could always hope

A Happy Ten-Year Birthday card

Might total it right – occasion unscarred…..

Will you send Goldfinch and I a 10 millionth birthday card? - our ages! lol.

    • Doggerel Dave

Dunno about that, me old mate - a quick read of the above should signal a supplier's resistance to the provision of birthday cards for any one other than those who are of fertile age and sexually rampant...... their philosophy relates to a quick increase in the population, which would provide for a greater market....

Ohh, I dunno about rampant at my (very old) age! lol. I might swoon.

Don't worry about the card just plant the kisses on her dear forehead for each year she has celebrated her birthdays 🌹 so very humbling. ❤️

        • Doggerel Dave

I think, being practical I may have to print ninety kissy emojis on a (soft) card and plant it on her forehead with a piece of carefully softened blue tac - otherwise I do believe she will be getting a little restless after the 67th or 68th kiss..... But the thought was definitely there, Teddy - Many thanks.
BTW I wasn't actually at the party - logistically impossible in the large sprawling city that Sydney is at that time of night. We meet up when I spend time with my partner at her place.

A great message. When one reaches a certain age years and count are no longer important, or maybe they are as a tribute to how old the person is, Loved the humor in this write but more than this I love the humor in me living as long as I have, it seems a cosmic joke.

            • Doggerel Dave

Cosmic joke seems about right to me too Soren. Could start ranting (not going to) about the medical quest for longer life, cryonics and so on...

You could always send nine ten year old birthday cards.

              Andy

              • Doggerel Dave

Now there's some lateral thinking, Andy. But I'm a tightwad - do you know how much those cards cost, irrespective of the years on the front? And next year it will be even worse: Nine ten year cards plus a "Congratulations on your Baby's First Birthday" but without any possibility of a discount.......Not that (reality correction) I had any hand in the purchase or delivery of the poem's subject card.....
