Unitarians.

Goldfinch60

Most of my life I was there,

Going to church,

A church where Jesus was,

Was there as the son of god.

This all changed,

As where was that god

When my wife suffered,

Suffered for so long.

So I forego christianity

And a weight lifted from me,

I saw that all organised religion

Was just a farce.

I walked into the Chapel,

A Unitarian Chapel

And there I found new life,

A life where god was there,

Or god was not there.

The belief that we had the right,

The right to seek truth,

Truth and meaning within us,

Finding from self-experience

The way to go forward.

Within a community

Each having their own beliefs,

The own beliefs or doubts.

Our own individual liberty  is enjoyed,

Where self-integrity is better,

Better than a pressure to conform.

A place where I have found a way,

Found a way to look further,

Further into my life

Without beliefs forced on me,

Forced on me by organised religion.

I know that my god and my spirit exist,

Exist within me,

And they are My God and My Spirit.

I will agree that 'religion' is the problem, or one of the problems. It's why I prefer to label my poems 'spiritual' and not 'religion'.

Good words Orchi, organised religion is a farce.

It sounds like a reasonable religion.I think we all seek meaning in different ways.Well written poem.

It brings war and hate, I believe we should all take faith in what we believe in, and would never take away the beliefs of others it's just my own reflection and observation that I as a non believer believe. lol I shall now go back to Limbo. Brilliant subject dear Andy, peace and love dear friend. ❤️

So very true Teddy, we must all believe in ourselves, thank you for your kind words.

I too feel that religion is more of a problem than a gift. Even the symbol of Christianity supposedly defied the religions of the time and as far as I remember never organized a formal religion simply using his followers to spread his teachings. A write I can identify with Andy.

Very true soren, organised religion will not accept any other way of life and that causes so mnay problems in our world.

Unitarianism: the "church" where you can believe anything EXCEPT the Gospel of salvation through faith in Christ.
But Ralph Waldo E. is still a cool poet !

They believe Jesus existed but was not the son of god, we all look to our own gods.
