Smiling Depressives

Neville

Smiling Depressives

The smile they all wear weary

hangs heavy,

like an old man’s thin smile ..

And with each

side of their jowls curled up

at both edges,

in truth, the heart still worn

loose on their sleeve

slowly shrivels and then most

surely it dies ..

Reminds me of that saying (not sure why?)-we are only as sick as our secrets.

    • Neville

Thank you, that saying reminds me of Orchidee (not sure why) but its a jolly decent (or should that be indecent) saying .. Neville

I hold out hope that I can keep all type of shriveling to a minimum.

I’m back on the block so we can rock with some poems, so rhythm, jazz, and hip-hop

      • Neville

Great to have you back brother B .. I am shrivelled to bits sir .. I do so hope you are well, cool and rhythmic

      • Doggerel Dave

Thanks for the thought, Neville...I'll look out for it.
The smile that really gets to me, though is the big one from day one, coupled withe overbearing niceness. I spy a sociopath..

        • Neville

Good morning my time Dave .. an easy mistake to make (I am not referring to the time) but I think I know why .. unfortunately, although smiling depression is often easy enough to treat, it is almost certainly the most difficult of all the affective disorders to identify and therefore, outcomes are not always favourable .. I wonder whether you were thinking of those smiling assassins who seem to be everywhere these days and who fit comfortably within the sociopathic paradigm .. I'm gonna give ya 9/34 for trying mate .. Neville 🥷😊🖤

I will try hard, really work at sensitivity and empathy and try to achieve ten.....

As for the sociopaths...I know those of whom I speak...............

            "Smile, it confuses people!"

            • Neville

that's the problem, it makes it so much more difficult to identify those most vulnerable ..

A thought provoking piece, Neville. And when asked, they say I'm fine.

              • Neville

You got it Tom .. I mean, the write answer .. Cheers and give yourself a pat on the shoulder from yours truly .. Neville

Talking to ourselves is not really a sign of madness, as some say!
We can talk positively to ourselves.
But no use me talking to KP. it's like talking to a trout botox mask! lol.

                • Neville

positive self talk is not a bad thing ..

                  • orchidee

It's all lost, all wasted on KP. She's too far trout-advanced now! lol.

                  • orchidee

I 'like' this but it won't let me 'like' it. a blip on the like button?

                    • Neville

Thanks, I have noticed that too

                    • Teddy.15

Reminds me of Robin Williams. Beautiful sad yet very loud because it's the norm now a days for so many, at least it's spoken about now thanks to some pretty cool people such as you dear Nev. 🌹

                      • Neville

I am far too greatly honoured Teddy, but I quite like the idea of being considered cool alongside a whole bunch of really cool people .. 🌹

Good morning Neville. So much to think about with this write. The eyes are a give away. You can tell by someone’s eyes whether the smile on their face is genuine or not. You can’t hide that and they are unlikely to tell you what’s causing their blackness. The eyes are the windows of the soul. I have observed many an old man in my local drinking his pain. I have also written about it. Have a glorious sunny Wednesday. (I tried to like you, but computer says no)

                        • Neville

How write & kind you are Cassie .. Oh' and have a wonderful Wednesday yourself too .. I know about that malfunctioning heart shaped like button, so no worries .. Neville

                        • Alan R

Indeed something off with the like button

Such na accurate piece, such a see through!

                          • Neville

I'll take that as a yes then .. thank you Alan .. Neville
