And It Rained!

Goldfinch60

Well here it was

The first match of the season.

The two teams arrived

Put all their wet gear on,

And then we started,

Started to play this game,

This glorious summer game

In the pouring rain.

There were puddles on the lawns

But we played,

We played our croquet match.

Nearly all day it rained

But we never gave in

As the game was more important,

More important than our wellbeing.

At the end of each game

The bedraggled players raced,

Raced to the pavilion

To dry out and have a hot drink.

At the end of the match we gathered,

We all gathered in the pavilion

Drinking tea and coffee,

And best of all

Eating cake.

The day had been wet

But the company was wonderful

And we all left feeling good,

Feeling good after a great day,

A great day in fine company.

We will play again

But when we do

It would be nice to play,

To play in the sunshine.

๐Ÿคฃ it's been raining cats and dogs over here, 16c apparently Monday we will have 40c come over try playing in that heat. crochet wouldn't be the same on any other ground, I love the British weather it's honest and unforgiving lol ๐ŸŒน

        • Goldfinch60

It is very hard to crochet in the rain as the wool gets very wet Teddy.

I don't mind the cold but once it gets above 15 I start moaning. A couple of years ago when we had a very hot summer I pulled out of a croquet tournament as the temperature was going to be 30 plus.

Here it has been raining for days and some houses are up to the roof top. Rain need not be only physical and emotional rain is no fun to play in. I would like to play in the sunshine as well. At least that's what Noah said.

          • Goldfinch60

It has been raining here consistently throughout April and the grounds are very wet. To play in the dry would be very welcome.

If climate change can produce that kind of conviviality, then bring it on!!!๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ™‚โ˜‚๏ธ-โ˜”๏ธ๐Ÿฉฒ ie get them swimmers on quick, son - there's a lot more of that commin' along...
PS: The vid clip ; the nostalgia......

            • Goldfinch60

We often have that conviviality in our games Dave.

Yes that song is so good as is the film of course.

So rain didnโ€™t stop play and that was good to hear. The tea and cake afterwards would have been right up my street but croquet in the rain, not for me Andy. I wouldnโ€™t!y want to get my hair wet ๐Ÿ™‚ We have certainly had our share this week. Looking for sunshine. Donโ€™t see it. Happy bank holiday.
