A Day Out in The Country

Neville

A Day Out in The Country

The uniformity of the green field

   from my window ..

Though still predominantly green,

was interrupted

here and there, by random smears

of the deepest

crimson imaginable and which in

turn, reminded

me of an old Goethe masterpiece,

   or Passchendaele ..

Tho’ on closer inspection, through

my inherited pair

of old, world war one, field glasses ..

I could just make

out the remains of at least a dozen

   stillborn lambs ..

Each rendered lifeless, by a single

over-excited dog,

a mixed flock of corvids and three

   opportunistic gulls ..

I also noticed, that the previously

well displayed sign,

requesting all dogs, be kept on their

leads during

lambing season, had been destroyed

and was evidently

ignored by hordes of tourists from

the big city who

were seemingly just out for a day’s jolly ..

Buggered up nicely by mass tourism...It's everywhere. Your argument, so rich in detail is enough evidence to send them into the desert (trying to avoid thoughts of execution).
    A good β€˜un Neville.

      Good write N.
Was we - you and I - at Passchendaele in person? Are you quite old? Was we in the Boers Wars too?!

Fido will bark if I don't tone down this comment. Tone down that word 'muck', he says.
Yes, countryside all fine, then man comes along and 'mucks' it up. Doh!

It is so sad and disgusting that people let there dogs loose when lambs are around Neville.

Sadly wealth can not get you common sense! Even when some try and get it of me they blame the dog and waste money.. fantastic write and with you all the way! The hardest part of living can be just understanding why others do what they do! So narrow minded we can only hope their DNA doesn't keep getting remastered... lol

          Cheers mate

Light-hearted on the surface, but a gut punch of a lament for a more peaceful, undisturbed time of tradition and natural rhythms. Sigh.

A beautiful scene beset with such tragedy that did not need to be, but for ignorance. Well told my friend.

                • Neville

thanks Bella, sickening isn't it ..
