The Breaking In of A New Summers Day

The Breaking In of A New Summers Day

While early morning mist

   still hovers,

like some hungry spectral

harrier might

still hover, just above our

once green fields ..

Elsewhere, a village lost

prepares itself,

to come alive again though

so very slow ..

Yet long before the arrival

 of fresh light

  and another, brand new day

   just beginning ..

Still painfully slow, to such

a fanfare of

old cocks, each groaning ..

Only bakers,

freaks and those waiting to

be hanged,

God fearing fishermen and

unfaithful

lovers, dare venture from

the shadows

night insists on affording us ..

Again, into these

rough-hewn cobbled streets

we each still

call home and all the makings

of yet another

brand-new, summer’s day ..

    A fine write N.
My poem goes - and then KP awoke to a new day - summer or whatever season - and asked for more money from me for botox! lol.

I think she is but a pigment of your unjustified emancipation

My friend, I really really like this one. The juxtaposition , the Yin Yang of all , have a starring role. It seems that you say to us that if we just wait, we get to taste both , live for a time in each , and that’s ok , for the completeness defines an authentic world , no matter how we fall on any specific day. The spectral harrier that is without judgement , the night insists not only a shadow upon all but also demands to hand the baton to create next whether it’s our chance to claim joy or be in line waiting to be hanged the inevitability of next is the dynamic reward.

As night slides into a brand new day. You paint a canvas here of both shadow and light. I saw wet cobblestones and amber lights before the rising of the sun. I saw closed doors and tasted sea salt. You create a familiar ambience of a fishing town. So visual.

In which case, I feel sure you must have been here before .. Thank you & truly Cassie58

A lovely setting in this poem and the section that caught my interest most was:
                "a fanfare of
                old cocks, each groaning ..
                Only bakers,
                freaks and those waiting to
                be hanged,
                God fearing fishermen and
                unfaithful
                lovers, dare venture from
                the shadows"
Very descriptive and so nicely worded. Lovely Neville
