Cloud Submarine.

Goldfinch60

There we were playing croquet

I looked up at the clouds

And there I saw a submarine,

It took me back,

Back to a time in my life

When I went aboard submarines

In the dockyard where I worked.

A time of great joy in my life,

A job in my early working life,

A place where I sorted problems

Problems on Naval Ships.

I was a metallurgist and chemist

Sorting out problems found on board.

I met many sailors,

Had great times with them

And I went into parts of the ships,

Parts where many would not go.

Testing for problems

And checking all was safe

When others were working.

Thanks to that cloud

I was taken back,

Taken back to a wonderful part,

A wonderful time of my life

And gave me the purpose,

The purpose of the wonderful life

The wonderful life I have had.

My Dad was an electrical engineer on the Queen Mary during WW11. It gave him a lifelong passion for boats. I like timber and metals but have no talent!

I can understand that 2781, you tend to get hooked on ships.

Memories are one thing that we carry with us as the rest around us deteriorates. The good ones can provide such joy. Lovely Andy

High time you disclosed more of your past, mate (Andy) that was great. Please do tell us more.

Well I worked for 47 years and one month, was never out of work, started as an analytical chemist, went into metallurgy and got promoted to Portsmouth Dockyard from Chatham Dockyard, my wife at the time didn't like that so I had to give up the job to save the marriage and came back to Rochester as a postman for a year, then went into local government for twenty years and got into computing in local government and then was offered a job in computing that I couldn't refuse and was there for 13 years before retiring twelve years ago.

            Will that do Dave?

            Andy

No it won't, Andy. There you have all that experience out of which you can extract interesting incidents from the real world. It might (in addition to entertaining me) inspire some poets here who are fond of daisies loove and their navel fluff to look out further into the world than the picture you paint of your latest stroll by your river.

Funny how a sight, sound or smell can transport one back in time. Nice work!

Completely inspired by cloud formations. Such an interesting post and accompanied by some stirring music Andy. I often have my head up in the clouds. I see faces 🙂

Thank you Cassie, it is amazing what you can see in clouds, one day I saw three clouds close to each other and they showed me Australia and New Zealand! Amazing.
