Proverb Pieces 5

Tune: Woodlands

('Tell out my soul')

Proverbs 16 v.16-20

*******

How much better it is to wisdom get

Than gold! Its value does exceed it yet

And to get understanding, rather choose

it than silver! You shall not fail, not lose

The highway of the upright it sure be

To depart from evil, 'tis wise to see

They that keep their way, they preserve their soul

Growing in wisdom, progress to be whole

Pride goes before destruction, and haughty

Spirit goes before a fall, so it be

Better to be of a spirit humble

With the lowly, and so you shall not fall

They that do handle a matter wisely

Shall find good, and shall know prosperity

And whoso trusts in the Lord, happy they

Be, and they have His presence night and day

Thanks to all 68,000 of you - probably not all separate people!
Or is it one person reading 68,000 times? lol.

    • Doggerel Dave

Yeh that would be right - plenty obsessive compulsives around...

      • orchidee

I knew it was you who made 67,999 of the comments - I thank you! lol.

        • Doggerel Dave

You are very welcome - but I'm about to loose all motivation unless the Prodigal Son returns soon.....

          • orchidee

I told ya - the lost coin comes next. The Prodigal Son is longer - he might not return! Doh!

            • Doggerel Dave

Wot about the lost coin (no mention of it before)? Are you ashamed of being so poor that you obsess over a lost coin? Get the Prodigal Son home - he's been around a bit. Maybe he could help you out with at least some advice.

              • orchidee

In today's poem a woman 'obsesses' as she has lost a coin of her dowry. That son might not bother to come back. He might go on holiday for 6 months! lol.

                • Doggerel Dave

Might!? Might!? Don't keep us all in suspenders there orchi - get your programme sorted and provide us all with some top notch content for once.............................................................. waiting!

                  • orchidee

It might be too much to sing, if I go on about the lost son!

                    • Doggerel Dave

Oh no, not sing! Outa control! Gotta put the brakes on here!!!
Just pin the whole story up here for all to see and marvel in silence. No, I'm reaching the end of my whatsits.... patience, and if I don't get no resolution to this issue soon, I'm going to find out where you live and send my brother Sylveste, with forty medals on his chest, to have a quiet word… trouble is, he forgets that word and gets mighty frustrated…….

                      • orchidee

Not written it yet! Will Sylveste search for a medal if he loses one - re. that lost coin!

                        • Doggerel Dave

Sir Orchi Non Sequitur, You are at it, as is your wont, again going off beam; but you will not deter me until the Prodigal Son fronts up here.....

                          • orchidee

Sir Orchi NS says - The lost son ain't a proverb - what's it doing on this poem's comments? It's a parable.
Told ya - he's gone on holiday for 6 months. heehee.

                            • Doggerel Dave

The reason you are Non Sequituring so regularly is, I believe because you are deluded, perhaps even hallucinating. Where was mention of 'proverb' ever made in these comments?
Neva mentioned 'holiday' either - this should not prevent an email or text to Prodigal Son over a matter so urgent.

I'm all for wisdom both night and day .. nice ink Orchidee .. Neville

Thanks N. Yep, we can't beat a bit of wisdom, but I understand you say we can beat an egg!

The rhyming pattern flows beautifully, as this poem delivers a message most wonderfully. A message we would all do well to take to heart. Thank you Orchi!

                                  Thanks Bella.

yes indeed pride goes before the fall. I've heard this many times from my own father as he told me what a bone head I was. He justified his insults as preparation to keep me from getting a big head. Good write Orchi

                                      • orchidee

Thanks SB. I must call KP bone head then! lol.

                                      • Goldfinch60

                                        Good one Orchi

                                        • orchidee

Thanks Gold. Did you have any gold or silver to start with anyway?! What we've not got, we won't miss?
