The Joy Of Old Age.

Goldfinch60

The one thing that we cannot stop

Is time, and getting older.

I have seen many things in my life,

Been on life’s journey.

Laughed through childhood,

Lusted through teenage years,

Matured with marriage when I found love.

Enthralled by children,

Laughed with grandchildren.

Worked all my life

Until the day of retirement came.

As I now progress towards my end

I realise that I am a lucky man.

I have had a good life,

The ups and downs have been there,

But many more ups than downs.

In this latter time of my life

I realise that many responsibilities

And worries have decreased.

So I go towards my end,

Cherishing the freedoms

And the rewards of old age.

We're millions of years old - you and I - and anyone else?!

    • Michael Edwards

Me - I remember asking Harold how long would it go on for. But hoe had problems seeing the future with only one eye.

Very true Orchi and Michael, Harold just could nor see what was going on.

It was my fault off course - you know the story of me saying 'Look up....'!

        • Michael Edwards

Also applies to me but in my art and love of gardening I've so much to live for I hope for a good few years yet.

As do I in my love of music Michael. "So much music, so little time"

'Joy' is a little over the top, but in a more general sense, I'm pretty reconciled and happy with it.

That's so good to hear Dave, may it continue for a long time to come.

Beautiful music. Yet, I enjoyed your poem more. It seemed so real to me. Like you were reading my mind. What a great outlook on life. Thanks for posting. Phil A.

My absolute pleasure Phil, may your life continue into that wonder which we both seem to have in life.

Beautifully said my friend, agree with you in every way. A beautiful choice of music to cap it off.

Well, maybe. Unsure about the ratio of ups and downs. Good work though.
