Understanding Songs.

Goldfinch60

Why is it that pop music is so bad!

You cannot understand the words

As the singers are screaming them!

In my youthful years

I could hear every word,

Elvis, the Beatles, Pink Floyd

Just to name three,

Three over three decades.

And then there was the Rat Pack.

Three singers who are still held in awe,

Frank, Dean and Sammy

So much beauty in their singing,

You knew what they were singing about.

Unlike today,

When the words are never heard.

True Gold that many do not enunciate and some with poor diction leave only the tune. It seems that this is set by the crowd of listeners that no longer listen to lyrics only beat. There are a few that do still enunciate well and to those I'll listen. Good write Andy

Well put, Andy. But there were also screamers right through the sixties, seventies and eighties. Thatโ€™s one of the reasons I retreated to warm pubs and a good pint.
But the big issue is, if the message cannot be understood then no one should sign up just because it has a catchy tune.

So true Dave but the top ones you could always understand.

Mines a pint of Pigs Ear if you are buying. LOL

That was rather naughty, Andy - when I googled 'Pigs Ear' all i got was dog food. Now there is more than ample room here at MPS for misunderstanding, as I have experienced more than once (sob) but luckily I have amazing qualities of resilience and compassion, so I qualified my search.... and discovered an amber liquid I may never experience (another big emotional sob...)

I enjoy many cask ales Dave and if I go into a new pub I look at what real ales they have and try one I have never had before unless they are selling Pigs Ear which I think is the finest ale I have ever tasted.

Yes Andy, the generations all have their own styles of preferred music. I, like you and many others like to hear the lyrics along with the music. The ones you mentioned, all favorites, but The Moody Blues had a special way of blending it all together. Well penned Andy. ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽถ

Got me thinking - I recall The Perry Como Show which was a 'must watch' back in the day - and every word was heard.

                  • Goldfinch60

Yes I too remember watching Perry Como and still listen to him occasionally Michael.

The picture says it all, these guys set standards few today can attain. Now it is more mumbling to a drum machine, scarcity of the basics; rhythm, some rhyme, meaning. Sorry, just me. Good job.
