Steps

sorenbarrett

All the years you looked down the road and watched the steps that I strode
You could see much farther than me upcoming joys and tragedy
on your back a heavy sack of the provisions that would bring us back
but to carry me, you dropped the bag with the key

Now with a stranger I walk and occasionally talk
the leaves are brown and the sun is going down
wandering in dim starlight I have no sight
so sore and stiff in the dark I see no cliff

If I should stumble and fall I will recall
how you lifted a spirit of lead, brushed off thunder of things said
blew away clouds of a rainy day handed me a pleasure bouquet
lifting the corners of my mouth from north to the south

Life has its ups and downs, but one must always remain optimistic, until the day that brings delight.
Well expressed feelings even though I feel depression.

There is an elegance in the rhyming pattern of this poem that enhances every line. Here memory and regret are so beautifully expressed. Loved it!

Fascinating and thought-provoking, leaving me pondering the implications, uncertain, left in the last light of gloaming with the taste upon my tongue I can't define except it's bittersweet, like the best dark chocolate. Lovely.

A brilliantly written defiant piece on the power of resilience and of gratitude here sorenbarrett.

To thank both yourself and the others who have aided you, and perhaps you them, that have given such mutual strength to live, is a beautiful thing indeed.

Bravo and I hope that all is well.

Resonates strongly with me. My heavy sack of provisions also got left behind. Do I need to say "nice work"?
