~> Jake And Lill, The Hanging Tree

Thad Wilk

A train robber one of the best,

he was well known throughout the West.

Jake and Lill planned soon to be wed,

but there was a price on his head.

The posters everywhere had read;

wanted alive, but preferred dead.

`^`

The sheriff's possie way back then;

got tipped off to, what train and when.

With this 'last job' Jake had a date,

then promised Lill he would go straight!

But this last crime did seal his fate.

The "hangman's noose" 'twould soon await!

`^`

That day Jake never stood a chance,

from 'the hanging tree' he would dance.

The news it broke Lill's heart surely;

She died it's said, prematurely.

In evenings some folk swear they see;

her ghostly image, near, that tree~

          Good triumphs over evil, or Capitalism wins once more?
          I can’t take much more of this (sob).
          But when all’s said and done some of them old Westerns did get me in as a young lad…Go Thad, go.
